Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Truth

The grand ballroom of Evans Global was packed with hundreds of journalists, photographers, and high-profile board members. Cameras flashed continuously as Victoria Evans stood at the podium, wiping away a fake tear.

"It is a tragedy," Victoria cried into the microphone. "My stepson, Dominic, has succumbed to the pressure of his position. We pray for the safety of the sweet child he took. I promise you, as the new leader of this company, I will cooperate fully with law enforcement to bring him to justice—"

"You can start by telling them the truth, Victoria!"

The heavy oak doors of the ballroom slammed open.

A collective gasp echoed through the room. Hundreds of cameras instantly swung toward the entrance.

Dominic Evans walked down the center aisle. He wore no suit, no expensive tie—just a dark jacket, his face smudged with soot, his eyes burning with absolute authority. And holding his hand, walking proudly beside him, was Ellie.

"Dominic!" Victoria gasped, her face pale, though she quickly recovered her composure. "Guards! Arrest him! He’s armed and dangerous! He’s holding the hostage!"

Security guards rushed forward, but Marcus and a dozen heavily armed private security operatives—loyal only to Dominic—blocked their path, their weapons drawn.

"Nobody moves!" Marcus barked.

Dominic walked right up to the stage. He gently lifted Ellie and placed her on the podium, right in front of the microphones.

"You want to talk about hostages, Victoria?" Dominic’s voice boomed through the speakers. "Let's talk about how you held this company hostage. Let's talk about how you murdered my brother, Julian Evans!"

"This is madness!" Victoria shrieked, looking at the reporters. "He's insane! Shut off the broadcast!"

"Don't touch those cameras," Dominic warned the technicians, pointing to the massive projection screen behind the stage. "Marcus, play the file."

Marcus slammed a flash drive into the media console.

The massive projection screen behind Victoria flashed to life. Instead of corporate logos, it began playing a video. It was Julian Evans, filmed just days before his death.

"If you are watching this, it means my stepmother, Victoria Evans, has succeeded in eliminating me," Julian's recorded voice echoed through the ballroom, sending a chilling silence over the crowd. "She is running a black-market smuggling operation using our shipping vessels. The encryption keys and financial records of her crimes are sealed inside my daughter Ellie's red bicycle. Dominic... if you find this, protect my daughter. She is the true heir."

The screen immediately transitioned to bank accounts, shipping manifests, and a direct audio recording of Victoria ordering the hit on Dominic’s penthouse the night before.

The journalists went wild. The flashbulbs were blinding.

"This is a lie! A deepfake!" Victoria screamed, her elegant facade completely shattering. She grabbed Ellie's arm, her fingernails digging into the child's flesh. "You little brat! You should have died in that fire with your father!"

"Get your hands off my daughter," Dominic roared.

Before Victoria could react, Ellie, remembering the lesson Dominic had taught her in the warehouse, bit Victoria’s hand hard. Victoria shrieked and let go, stumbling backward.

Dominic stepped forward, grabbed Victoria by the collar, and handed her directly to the federal agents who had just burst through the back doors of the ballroom. They had been tipped off by Dominic’s legal team with the decrypted files.

"Victoria Evans, you are under arrest for corporate espionage, smuggling, and the murder of Julian Evans," the lead agent declared, slamming handcuffs onto her wrists.

As Victoria was dragged away, screaming curses, the room erupted into chaos. Journalists scrambled to get close to Dominic.

"Mr. Evans! What will happen to the company now?"

"Mr. Evans! Is it true the girl is your niece?"

Dominic stood at the podium, shielding Ellie from the flashing lights. He leaned down to the microphone.

"This company will continue to thrive under its rightful leadership," Dominic announced, his voice calm and steady. "But today, my work as CEO is temporarily suspended. I have a much more important job to attend to."

He looked down at Ellie, who was smiling up at him, her eyes bright with hope.

"Come on, Ellie," Dominic said, picking her up. "The day isn't over yet. We still have a bicycle to ride."

EPILOGUEIn the afternoon sun, the park was peaceful once again.

The grass was green, the sky was a brilliant blue, and the shadows of the morning's violence had completely evaporated.

A brand-new, custom-built bicycle stood on the pavement. It was painted a brilliant, sparkling red. It didn't have rust, it didn't squeak, and its seat was made of soft, comfortable leather. But on the frame, Dominic had carefully painted a tiny, gold logo—a replica of the original rusted design Julian had created.

Ellie climbed onto the seat. She gripped the handlebars, her small hands steady.

"Are you ready, Ellie?" Dominic asked, holding the back of the seat.

"I'm ready, Daddy," she said, her voice filled with a joy she had never known in her six years of survival.

"Just keep your eyes forward. Pedal steady. I won't let you fall," Dominic promised.

He gave her a gentle push.

Ellie pedaled. The front wheel wobbled for a fraction of a second, but then, she found her rhythm. She moved forward, faster and faster, her long hair streaming behind her, her laughter echoing through the trees like music.

Dominic stood back, his hands in his pockets, a genuine, radiant smile breaking across his face.
