Chapter 5 - THE HOSPITAL ROOM CONFRONTATION

"She tried to run from him once. But this time, he’s not letting her go without a fight."
Mark rushed back to the hospital. He burst into Anna's room to find her sitting up, looking much stronger, her cheeks regaining their natural color. She was watching the triplets color in a coloring book at the small table near the window.
When Anna saw Mark’s furious expression, she tensed. "Mark? What’s wrong?"
Mark walked over to the bed, dropping the black leather binder onto her lap. "Read it," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "Please, Anna. Just read it."
Anna hesitantly opened the binder. As her eyes scanned the forged signatures, the edited transcripts, and the bank details, tears began to stream down her face.
"This... this isn't real," she gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. "You didn't... you didn't sign this?"
"I never saw that contract in my life," Mark said, falling to his knees beside her bed, just as he had on the freezing sidewalk. He took both of her hands in his. "My mother set us up, Anna. She forged my name. And Victoria... Victoria has been tracking you. The medicine you were taking for your cough? It was being poisoned to keep you sick. To keep you from finding me."
Anna gasped, looking over at her three daughters, who had stopped coloring and were watching their parents with wide, silent eyes.
"They... they tried to kill me?" Anna whispered, horror washing over her face. "Our babies... Mark, I was so scared. I thought you hated us. I thought you wanted us gone."
"I have loved you every single day for seven years," Mark said, his voice cracking as he pulled her hands to his forehead. "I built an empire because I thought it would fill the void you left. But it was completely worthless. None of it matters without you. Without them."
Norah walked over slowly, standing beside Mark. She reached out a small hand and touched his shoulder. "Are you our daddy?" she asked quietly.
Mark looked up, tears freely spilling down his face. He reached out and gently pulled Norah into his arms. Then he looked at June and Tessa. "Yes. I am your daddy. And I am never, ever going to let anyone hurt you or your mommy again."
June ran over and threw her arms around his neck, while Tessa crawled onto the bed and held her mother's hand. For the first time in seven years, the family was whole.
But the battle wasn't over.

Mark stood up, his face hardening as he looked at the clock. "The Vance Group is hosting their annual charity gala tonight. Victoria and her father are expecting me to announce our wedding date."
He looked at Anna, a cold, ruthless glint in his eyes. "I think it’s time we give them a different kind of announcement."
