Chapter 6 - THE ULTIMATE EXPOSURE

"The gala of the century turns into a public execution of a dynasty. A billionaire’s revenge is served cold."
The Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was packed with the city’s elite. Crystal chandeliers gleamed overhead, and champagne flowed freely. Victoria Vance stood in the center of the room, wearing a stunning white designer gown, smiling brilliantly for the cameras.
"Where is Mark?" her father, Richard Vance, whispered angrily beside her. "The press is waiting. The announcement needs to happen now."
"He’ll be here, Father," Victoria whispered back, though her smile was tight. "He’s just resolving a small personal matter."
Suddenly, the heavy doors of the ballroom swung open.
The chatter in the room instantly died down.
Mark Sullivan walked in. He wasn't alone.
He was wearing his finest tuxedo, but beside him, holding his arm, was Anna Pierce. She looked radiant, dressed in a stunning, elegant emerald-green silk gown that hid her frailness, her hair styled beautifully, her head held high.
And walking just behind them, dressed in matching velvet dresses, were June, Tessa, and Norah. They held hands, looking around the grand room with wide, curious eyes, but showing no fear.
Whispers erupted through the crowd. Cameras flashed frantically.
Victoria’s face turned an ashen shade of grey. Richard Vance dropped his champagne glass, the crystal shattering on the marble floor.
Mark walked straight up to the stage, taking the microphone from the presenter.
"Ladies and gentlemen, members of the press," Mark’s voice boomed through the speakers, commanding absolute attention. "I thank you all for coming tonight. I know many of you expected an announcement regarding my upcoming marriage to Victoria Vance."
He turned to look at Victoria, who was frozen in place, her eyes wide with terror.
"However, I am here to announce a merger of a different kind," Mark continued, his voice dripping with venom. "I am here to introduce my wife, Anna Sullivan, and our three beautiful daughters."
The crowd gasped. The cameras went wild.
"Mark, what are you doing?" Victoria shrieked, stepping toward the stage. "This is a joke! Security, remove these people!"
"No one is moving," Mark cold-pressed. He waved his hand, and the giant projector screen behind him, which was supposed to show a slideshow of his and Victoria's charity work, suddenly flickered to life.
Instead of charity photos, the screen displayed copies of the forged contract from seven years ago, bank statements linking the Vance family to the private investigator, and the official laboratory toxicology report showing the arsenic levels in Anna’s cough medicine, along with the wire transfer receipts from Richard Vance to the corrupt doctor in the slums.
"Over the last seven years, the Vance family, along with my late mother, conspired to kidnap, extort, and systematically poison my wife in an attempt to steal my company and force me into a marriage," Mark announced, his voice echoing like thunder.
Shouts of shock filled the room. Several high-profile guests backed away from the Vances as if they were contagious.
At that moment, the doors of the ballroom opened once more. A dozen federal agents and police officers marched into the room, led by Carter.
"Richard Vance, Victoria Vance," the leading agent announced, pulling out handcuffs. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, extortion, and medical fraud."
Victoria screamed as the handcuffs were slapped onto her wrists, her designer gown dragging on the floor as she was led away in front of hundreds of cameras. Richard Vance stayed silent, his head bowed in defeat as his empire crumbled in a single evening.
Mark stepped down from the stage, walking over to Anna. He took her hand, and together, they looked down at their three daughters.
Norah looked up at the giant screen, then at the glittering ballroom. "Does this mean we don't have to sell paintings on the street anymore?"
May you like
Mark smiled, a genuine, warm smile that he hadn't worn in seven long years. He picked up June and Tessa in his arms, while Anna held Norah’s hand.
"No, sweetheart," Mark whispered, kissing June’s forehead. "From now on, the only thing we’re going to do is paint a beautiful life together."
