Chapter 3 - The Bankruptcy of a Bully

While Elena was navigating the treacherous waters of the Sterling Manor, Mark Vance’s life was burning to the ground in real-time.
By 8:00 AM, Mark was frantic. He sat in his office at Vance Logistics, the phone lines ringing off the hook. His secretary didn't even knock before throwing open his door, her face pale.
"Mark! The bank just called! They’ve called in our five-million-dollar commercial loan immediately. They’re claiming we violated the moral turpitude clause in the contract!"
"What?! How?!" Mark screamed, his hair disheveled, bags under his eyes. "That's impossible! They can't do that!"
"And that's not all," she whimpered. "The Department of Transportation just arrived. They’re grounding all our trucks for a 'surprise safety audit.' Mark... we’re locked out of our accounts. We can't even pay payroll today."
Before Mark could process the information, his office door slammed open. Two men in sharp black suits—the same bodyguards from the night before—stepped inside, followed by a sleek, sharp-featured man holding a leather briefcase. It was Mr. Vance’s landlord’s attorney.
"Mark Vance," the attorney said smoothly, placing a stack of legal documents on the desk. "As of 6:00 AM today, Sterling Real Estate Holdings has purchased the debt and titles to this commercial building, as well as your residential home. Due to immediate breach of environmental regulations, you are being evicted. You have exactly one hour to clear your personal belongings."
"You can't do this!" Mark roared, slamming his fists on the desk. "Elena did this, didn't she?! That useless, pathetic bitch! Where is she?!"
"Mrs. Sterling is currently resting in a mansion you couldn't afford in three lifetimes," the attorney replied coldly. "And I would watch how you speak about her. A defamation lawsuit has already been filed against you, seeking damages that will ensure you remain in debt for the next three generations."
Desperate, humiliated, and filled with a venomous rage, Mark stormed out of the building. He had lost everything in twelve hours. His money, his company, his home. He was ruined.
As he stood on the sidewalk, his phone buzzed with a text message from an unknown number: “If you want your revenge on Elena and the Sterling family, meet me at the Pier 4 warehouse at midnight. Bring everything you know about her.”

The text was sent by Julian, Cassandra’s son.
Hook: Mark smiled savagely through his panic. He knew a secret about Elena—a secret she herself didn't even know, buried deep within the adoption papers he had hidden away years ago. A secret that could destroy the entire Sterling empire if revealed at the upcoming Grand Gala.
