CHAPTER 2 — THE LETTER HER FATHER LEFT CHANGED EVERYTHING... WHILE THE MAN WHO HUMILIATED HER BEGAN LOSING HIS EMPIRE

The storm refused to let up.

Rain pounded the roof of the old bus station as Valeria stared at the yellowed envelope resting in her trembling hands.

For several long seconds...

She couldn't bring herself to break the wax seal.

It carried the same crest engraved on the antique gold key—two lions guarding an ancient oak tree.

A symbol she hadn't seen since she was a little girl.

Rosa gently placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

"Your father prayed I would never have to give you that letter," she whispered.

"He wanted you to live an ordinary life... far away from greed."

Valeria swallowed hard.

"But if you're reading it..."

Rosa continued softly.

"...it means someone judged your worth by your appearance instead of your heart."

Tears blurred Valeria's vision.

She finally opened the envelope.

Inside was a handwritten letter.

The familiar handwriting instantly brought back memories she had buried for years.

Her father had written:

My dearest Valeria,

If this letter is in your hands, then someone has broken your heart so completely that you believe you have nothing left.

Don't believe them.

The world will always have people who measure beauty with a scale and love with money. Never become one of them.

Everything I built was never meant to make you rich. It was meant to make you free.

The key opens Vault 27 at Banco Nacional. Inside, you will find the truth I have protected since the day you were born.

Trust Rosa. Trust no one else.

And never tell anyone your family name until you know who deserves it.

I love you.

Forever,

Dad.

Valeria broke down in tears.

For years...

She had believed her father died a defeated man.

Now she realized...

He had sacrificed everything to protect her.

Meanwhile...

Across the city...

Esteban slept peacefully, convinced he had rid himself of a burden.

His confidence lasted less than eight hours.

At exactly 8:00 the next morning...

His assistant burst into his office without knocking.

"Sir..."

Her face had turned completely pale.

"We have a serious problem."

Esteban frowned.

"What now?"

"Our biggest construction project has been suspended."

He laughed dismissively.

"That's impossible."

"It already happened."

She handed him an official notice.

The financing had been frozen.

Every payment had stopped overnight.

Investors were demanding emergency meetings.

Before Esteban could process the information...

His phone rang again.

One call.

Then another.

Then another.

Three luxury developments.

Two commercial towers.

One beachfront resort.

Every single project...

Had suddenly lost its funding.

His forehead filled with sweat.

"This makes no sense."

His financial director rushed into the room.

"We've checked every account."

"There isn't enough liquidity to cover payroll next month."

Esteban slammed his fist onto the desk.

"Who is doing this?"

Nobody had an answer.

At the Castillo mansion...

Doña Leticia remained as arrogant as ever.

"They're temporary setbacks."

"Call your political friends."

"Offer more money."

"They'll solve it."

But by noon...

The family's private banker refused to answer their calls.

By two o'clock...

The stock price of Castillo Desarrollos had fallen dramatically.

By three...

News reporters had begun gathering outside company headquarters.

Inside the luxury penthouse...

The atmosphere had changed completely.

For the first time in years...

Fear entered the Castillo family.

Far across the city...

An old black sedan stopped in front of Banco Nacional.

The building looked more like a historic palace than a bank.

Armed guards stood at every entrance.

Rosa stepped out first.

She opened an umbrella over Valeria and little Mateo.

"We're here."

Valeria looked at the enormous stone building in confusion.

"I've never been here."

"You weren't supposed to."

Inside...

The marble lobby was silent.

A young receptionist smiled politely.

"Good morning. May I help you?"

Rosa placed the antique key on the counter.

The receptionist's smile disappeared instantly.

She examined the crest.

Her hands began to shake.

"One moment, please."

Within sixty seconds...

The bank manager himself hurried downstairs.

A distinguished man in his sixties wearing an immaculate black suit stopped in front of Valeria.

His eyes widened.

For a brief moment...

He looked as though he had seen a ghost.

Then...

To the astonishment of every employee in the lobby...

He bowed deeply.

"Miss Valeria..."

"We've been waiting for you for ten years."

The entire bank fell silent.

Employees exchanged confused glances.

Customers stopped speaking.

Even the security guards stared in disbelief.

Valeria looked around, completely overwhelmed.

"I think you've mistaken me for someone else."

The manager smiled warmly.

"No."

"We've been expecting the daughter of Don Alejandro..."

"...the founder of the Montemayor Group."

Valeria froze.

The name struck her like lightning.

Montemayor Group.

One of the largest privately owned business empires in Latin America.

A company whose investments stretched across banking, real estate, renewable energy, shipping, luxury hotels, and international finance.

It had always been surrounded by mystery because nobody knew who truly owned it.

Her lips barely moved.

"My father..."

"...founded Montemayor?"

The manager nodded.

"He never sold it."

"He simply disappeared."

Then he looked directly into her eyes.

"And beginning today..."

"...every share belongs to you."

At that exact moment...

Across the city...

Esteban's secretary rushed into his office once again.

She couldn't even catch her breath.

"Sir..."

"You need to see the financial news immediately."

He grabbed the remote and switched on the television.

Breaking News flashed across every channel.

THE RECLUSIVE OWNER OF THE MONTEMAYOR GROUP HAS OFFICIALLY RETURNED.

The anchor continued:

"Sources confirm that the mysterious heir is expected to assume control today, making her one of the youngest and wealthiest business leaders in Mexico."

Esteban barely paid attention.

He had no idea...

That the woman he had thrown into the rain less than twenty-four hours earlier...

May you like

Was the very person now holding the power to decide whether his empire survived...

Or disappeared forever.
