CHAPTER 2 — The Photograph That Exposed a Lie
The President stared at the photo on the floor.
Then he looked at Noah.
"Who is this child?" he asked quietly.
No one answered.
Emily stepped in front of her son, but Senator Richard Hale suddenly grabbed her arm.
"You were told to disappear," he hissed.
The entire room heard him.
Gasps spread like fire.
Emily's eyes filled with tears.
"Your son loved me," she said. "And he loved Noah."
Richard's face twisted with rage.
"My son had no child."
At that moment, Noah looked up and whispered:
"Then why did Grandpa send men to our house last night?"
The room went dead silent.
A Secret Service agent stepped forward.
"Ma'am… is that true?"
Emily opened her purse with shaking hands and pulled out a small recorder.
"He knew they were coming," she said. "That's why he left proof."
She pressed play.
The dead senator's voice filled the funeral hall:
"If anything happens to me, protect Emily and my son. My father is not grieving me. He's the reason I'm dead."
Senator Hale collapsed into a chair.
But before anyone could arrest him...
The coffin suddenly made a sound.
One knock.
Then another.
Everyone screamed.
