CHAPTER 5 — The Boy Opened the Memory Card... And the Whole Country Was Watching

The emergency lights flickered on.

Red.

Cold.

Unforgiving.

Smoke drifted through the shattered funeral hall as terrified survivors huddled behind overturned pews.

The giant steel doors remained sealed.

No signal.

No escape.

No one knew who was controlling the building.

Except Noah.

His tiny hand gripped the memory card so tightly that the sharp edges cut into his skin.

He remembered his father's final words.

"If they trap you... find the blue room."

Suddenly, a woman in a black Secret Service uniform appeared beside him.

She knelt.

"I'm Agent Sarah Collins."

Her badge looked real.

Her voice was calm.

"Your father trusted me."

Noah stared at her.

Then slowly shook his head.

"My mom said not to trust anyone."

Sarah froze.

Before she could answer—

BANG!

A sniper's bullet smashed through the wall exactly where she had been kneeling.

She pulled Noah behind a marble pillar.

"They're watching every move."

Daniel, barely conscious, looked toward Noah.

"Sarah..."

"Take him..."

"...to the Blue Room."

The President heard the words.

"The Blue Room? What's in there?"

Daniel coughed blood.

"The backup server..."

"...everything."

Sarah grabbed Noah's hand.

"This way!"

They disappeared through a hidden service corridor beneath the funeral hall.

Behind them, armed men searched every room.

"Find the kid!"

"The memory card is worth billions!"

Meanwhile...

Senator Richard Hale sat safely inside a black armored command truck parked half a mile away.

Dozens of surveillance screens covered the walls.

One showed the funeral hall.

Another showed the underground tunnels.

A third...

Showed Noah running.

Richard smiled.

"He thinks the memory card contains evidence."

His chief of security frowned.

"It doesn't?"

Richard laughed.

"No."

"It contains the password."

"The real evidence has always been somewhere else."

At that exact moment...

Sarah and Noah reached a massive steel vault hidden beneath the Capitol's oldest foundation.

There was no keypad.

No fingerprint scanner.

Only a small screen.

It displayed one message:

DNA VERIFICATION REQUIRED.

Sarah looked confused.

"No one can open this."

Noah slowly stepped forward.

"My daddy said I could."

He placed his tiny hand onto the scanner.

Nothing happened.

Then...

A tiny needle pricked his finger.

One drop of blood touched the glass.

For two long seconds...

Silence.

Then the vault shook.

Massive locking mechanisms echoed through the underground chamber.

A robotic voice announced:

"DNA MATCH CONFIRMED."

"WELCOME... PRESIDENT NOAH HALE."

Sarah's face turned white.

The President.

Standing hundreds of feet above them.

Froze as the same message suddenly appeared on every television, every phone, and every digital billboard across America.

Millions of people watched in disbelief.

Five-year-old Noah Hale...

Had just been identified by the government's highest-security system...

As the true Commander-in-Chief of the United States.

Richard Hale's smile disappeared.

For the first time...

May you like

He looked terrified.
