CHAPTER 6 â The Agent Who Refused the Order

The lead FBI agent stepped inside.
He was calm.
Professional.
His badge read:
Special Agent Lucas Grant.
He looked directly at Ethan.
"Captain Ethan Walker?"
"Yes."
"I've been ordered to arrest you."
Noah stepped between them.
"He's my father!"
"You can't take him!"
Lucas remained silent for several seconds.
Then he asked one unexpected question.
"What was your military identification number?"
Ethan answered instantly.
"Delta Echo Seven Four One Nine."
Lucas slowly lowered the arrest warrant.
His hands began to shake.
"That's impossible..."
Emma looked confused.
"You know him?"
Lucas reached into his wallet.
Inside was an old newspaper clipping.
A picture of a young soldier smiling beside another recruit.
The second recruit...
Was Lucas.
"I served under Captain Walker."
"He saved my life."
The room fell silent.
Lucas looked back toward the agents waiting outside.
Then quietly whispered,
"They lied to all of us."
He turned off his radio.
"Listen carefully."
"You have less than ten minutes."
"The order didn't come from the FBI."
"It came directly from General Hawthorne."
"They're planning to kill you during transport..."
"...and report that you resisted arrest."
Emma covered her mouth.
"They'll murder him?"
Lucas nodded.
"They've done it before."
He handed Ethan a small flash drive.
"I've been collecting evidence against Hawthorne for three years."
"I never had a witness."
"Until now."
Ethan accepted the drive.
Their eyes met.
For the first time...
He realized he wasn't fighting alone anymore.
But before anyone could move...
One of the agents outside suddenly shouted,
"HE'S RUNNING!"
A deafening explosion ripped through the front porch.
The house shook violently.
Smoke filled the hallway.
Gunfire erupted from every direction.
Lucas drew his weapon and yelled,
"GET TO THE BASEMENT!"
As Ethan grabbed Noah and Emma, another explosion shattered every remaining window.
Outside...
More black SUVs screeched to a stop.
This wasn't an arrest anymore.
May you like
It was an execution.
