CHAPTER 2 — The Truth No One Could Hide

Ethan walked into the living room without saying a word.

The room fell silent.

Even Chloe's friends felt something was different.

His calmness was terrifying.

He looked around slowly.

At the dirty plates.

The spilled drinks.

The expensive shoes resting on his coffee table.

Then he asked one simple question.

"Who made those dishes?"

Nobody answered.

Chloe shrugged.

"Diana volunteered."

Ethan looked directly into her eyes.

"Really?"

She hesitated.

Only for a second.

Then laughed.

"She doesn't mind helping."

He nodded.

Then calmly walked back into the kitchen.

Moments later...

He returned carrying two things.

A trash bag.

And Diana's phone.

He placed the phone on the coffee table.

Tapped the screen.

Security camera footage from the kitchen filled the television.

The room froze.

There was Chloe...

Ordering Diana to wash every dish.

Mocking her pregnancy.

Rolling her eyes whenever Diana stopped to rest.

One clip showed Diana almost collapsing after lifting a heavy pot.

Another showed Chloe pouring juice onto the counter.

Then saying...

"You missed a spot."

Her friends laughed.

Nobody looked at Chloe anymore.

They stared at the screen in complete disbelief.

Ethan finally spoke.

"Does anyone here know what the doctor said yesterday?"

Silence.

"My wife has a high-risk pregnancy."

Still silence.

"If she experiences enough physical stress..."

His voice cracked.

"...I could lose both my son and my wife."

No one breathed.

Chloe's face turned pale.

"I... I didn't know..."

"You never asked."

He interrupted.

"You never cared."

Then Diana quietly stepped forward.

"Ethan... please..."

She didn't want another family destroyed because of her.

But Ethan gently took her hand.

For the first time in months...

Someone was protecting her.

He turned back toward Chloe.

"I've defended you your whole life."

"I paid your college tuition."

"I helped after every mistake."

"But today..."

He looked around the room.

"You humiliated the woman who sacrificed everything for this family."

Then he pointed toward the front door.

"You and everyone who helped you disrespect my wife..."

"Leave."

Now.

Not tomorrow.

Not after dinner.

Now.

One by one...

The guests grabbed their bags and hurried outside.

No one laughed anymore.

Only Chloe remained.

May you like

Standing alone.

Realizing she had finally gone too far.
