Chapter 4 - THE CONFESSION IN THE DARK"Alejandro..." Karina stammered, taking a panicked step backward. Her facade of cold confidence crumbled instantly, replaced by the desperate, frantic scrambling of a cornered animal. "You... you don't understand. Everything I said was just—"

"Just a lie," I finished, my voice steady, cold, and dead. "Five years of marriage. A carefully orchestrated trap. You didn't just abuse my mother; you tried to murder her to fast-track the forgery of the land deeds."

El Carnicero didn't flinch. A slow, sinister grin spread across his scarred face as he cracked his knuckles and advanced toward me.

"You shouldn't have come here alone, boy," the bodyguard growled, pulling a heavy-duty switchblade from his inner jacket pocket. "The legal system takes too long. Accidents happen in abandoned ruins all the time."

Karina quickly recovered her composure, her eyes flashing with malice. "Kill him, then burn the house down. Make it look like an electrical fire. Jorge will handle the police."

The knife glinted under the flickering moonlight. El Carnicero lunged forward.

Adrenaline surged through my veins. Years of corporate desk work vanished, replaced by the raw, primal instinct of survival. As he swung the blade toward my chest, I sidestepped, letting his momentum carry him past me. I grabbed the heavy crowbar from the desk and swung it with all my might, striking his shoulder blade with a sickening crunch.

He roared in pain, spinning around and catching me across the cheek with the back of his hand. I stumbled backward, crashing into a stack of old wooden crates.

"Alejandro!" Karina screamed—not out of love, but out of frustration that I wasn't dead yet. "Finish him!"

El Carnicero raised the knife for a fatal strike.

Suddenly, the front doors of the mansion blasted open. Bright, blinding beams of white light flooded the grand foyer, accompanied by the blare of police sirens and the roaring engines of multiple cruisers.

"Federal Police! Drop the weapon!"

A dozen officers rushed into the room, assault rifles raised. El Carnicero froze, the knife slipping from his trembling fingers and clattering onto the hardwood floor.

Karina tried to bolt toward the balcony, but two officers intercepted her, shoving her face-first against the mahogany desk and snapping heavy steel cuffs around her wrists.

As they dragged her past me, she glared at me with pure, unadulterated venom. "You'll never win, Alejandro! Jorge Mendoza owns this city! You're dead! You're all dead!"
