Chapter 6 - The Trap Within the Trap“You talk too much, Lorenzo,” I said.

My voice didn't shake. It didn't tremble with fear. It carried the chilling calm of a man who had already calculated three steps ahead before his opponent even drew his weapon.

Lorenzo’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second. “What did you say?”

“I said you talk too much,” I repeated, maintaining direct eye contact. “You spent fifteen years watching my back, but you forgot one fundamental rule about the Vale Syndicate.”

“And what’s that? Your pathetic loyalty speech?”

“No,” I replied, a cold, dangerous smile touching the corner of my lips. “Rule number one: Never trust a man who smiles too much. And rule number two: Never assume the boss goes anywhere unarmed.”

Before Lorenzo could twitch his finger, a heavy metallic clank echoed from the top of the basement stairs.

Lorenzo’s head snapped toward the door.

Too late.

The heavy iron bulkhead door was kicked wide open from the outside. Three red laser dots flickered across the dim concrete walls, dancing instantly across Lorenzo’s chest, shoulders, and forehead.

“Drop the weapon!” a voice roared from the stairs.

It was Marcus, the captain of my personal security detail, flanked by half a dozen heavily armed enforcers clad in black tactical gear. They flooded down the stairs like an avalanche of steel and fury.

Lorenzo panicked. He swung his gun toward me, desperate to squeeze off a suicidal shot, but I moved with lightning speed. I lunged forward, grabbing his wrist and twisting it upward with bone-crunching force. The Beretta discharged, the bullet embedding harmlessly into the concrete ceiling in a shower of sparks.

With a sharp kick to his knee joint, I dropped Lorenzo to the concrete floor, planting my boot squarely on his chest.

Marcus stepped forward, pressing the barrel of an assault rifle against the side of Lorenzo’s head.

“Good evening, Mr. Vale,” Marcus said coolly, looking down at the trembling traitor. “We tracked your GPS beacon the moment you left the estate. Just like you ordered.”
