Chapter 8 - The Blueprint of Tomorrow

The sun dipped below the Nashville skyline, casting long, golden shadows across our porch. The barbecue grill had cooled down, and the laughter of our friends had faded into the quiet hum of a peaceful evening.

Inside, Frederick had finally fallen asleep, his breathing soft and rhythmic in his crib.

Amy and I sat on the living room couch, the blueprints of our future spread out across the coffee table—not architectural blueprints for bridges or buildings, but travel brochures for a family vacation to the mountains, remodeling plans for the kitchen, and college savings fund documents for our son.

I reached across the table, taking Amy's hand in mine. Her fingers were no longer calloused from forced labor; they were warm, soft, and steady.

"To new foundations," I said softly, raising a glass of sparkling cider.

Amy clinked her glass against mine, her smile radiant in the warm lamplight. "And to the truth that sets us free."

The past was behind us, locked away in a dark file cabinet of memory where it belonged. Ahead lay an open road, built on mutual respect, unwavering love, and a strength that no storm could ever shake.
