Chapter 7 - The Master Plan UnveiledThe green ledgers were not just financial books. They were handwritten logs detailing five years of systematic corporate espionage.

Martin and Richard hadn't just been stealing wages from domestic staff. They had been using the estate’s distribution infrastructure to smuggle unauthorized, non-FDA-approved counterfeit pharmaceuticals into my hospital supply network.
The unpaid wages of Helen and eleven other workers were deliberately created to fund a shell bank account used as collateral to bribe state customs inspectors.
They were framing me for international medical fraud.
If this hit the news, I wouldn't just lose my company—I would spend the rest of my life in a federal penitentiary.
"They're going to put my mom in jail, aren't they?" Grace asked, her voice cracking slightly for the first time. "I heard the mean man say he was going to tell the police that Mom stole the money."
"No," I said, putting my hand on her shoulder. "They aren't going to put anyone in jail. Not your mother, and not me."
"Mr. Caldwell!" a harsh voice echoed down the stone corridor.
Martin Pierce stepped into the basement light, holding a sleek black handgun. Behind him stood two of the tactical security guards.
"I knew you'd come down here, Andrew," Martin said, pointing the gun straight at my heart. "You always were predictable."
"Martin," I said slowly, standing up and shielding Grace behind me. "Smuggling counterfeit narcotics through Caldwell Medical? Framing my estate staff? You and Richard are facing life in federal prison."
Martin laughed. "Prison? Who's going to tell them? The disgraced CEO who overdosed in his master bedroom? Or the housekeeper's daughter who had a tragic accident in the dark basement?"
"You're forgetting one thing, Martin," I said softly.
"Oh? And what's that?"
"You're standing in my house."
I reached behind my back and slammed my palm against the emergency fire-suppression master wall toggle—a safety feature required for subterranean storage holding high-value vintage collections.
ALARM SOUNDING. AREA ISOLATION IN PROGRESS.
Heavy industrial steel fire shutters slammed down from the ceiling with a deafening crash, sealing off the hallway between Martin and us. A thick cloud of high-pressure halon fire-suppression gas began spraying from the ceiling nozzles, blinding Martin and his guards, choking their sight.

"Run, Grace!" I yelled.
I grabbed the heavy ledgers, picked up Grace, and sprinted through the lower maintenance exit toward the wine vault.
