Chapter 6 - Total Financial AnnihilationPreston scoffed, trying to regain his arrogant posture, though his hands shook uncontrollably. "You can't just divorce me on behalf of your daughter! That's not how the law works, General! I have rights!"

The attorney stepped forward, pushing heavy black-rimmed glasses up his nose, and opened the first binder.
"Mr. Montgomery, you are entirely correct about civil law," the attorney said smoothly. "However, over the last seventy-two hours, General Hayes's financial intelligence unit has conducted a comprehensive audit of your personal assets, your law firm's partnership records, and your joint accounts with Juliet."
Preston's color drained entirely. "An audit? You had no right—"
"Section 4 of your prenuptial agreement—which you so carefully drafted to protect your own assets in the event of a separation—contains a rarely invoked morality and abandonment clause," the attorney continued, flipping a page. "Furthermore, our audit uncovered something far more interesting. Embezzlement from client trust accounts at Montgomery & Vance Law Firm, tax evasion spanning the last four years, and illegal offshore shell companies registered under your mother’s maiden name."
Preston lunged forward, his face purple with blind panic. "That's a lie! You fabricated those documents!"
"Did we?" Martin asked calmly, stepping between Preston and the attorney. He tossed a thick manila folder onto Juliet's bed tray. "Open it, Preston. Look at the bank transfers. Look at the signatures. You thought you were the smartest shark in Raleigh. But you were just a guppy swimming in an ocean you didn't understand."
Preston's trembling hands opened the folder. Page after page of undeniable paper trails, transaction logs, and federal indictments stared back at him. It was a complete, inescapable trap. His law career, his freedom, his social status—everything he had built on lies was collapsing into dust in a matter of seconds.

"You... you destroyed me," Preston whispered, staring up at General Hayes in sheer, unadulterated horror.
"No, Preston," Martin said quietly, leaning down until his eyes burned into Preston's soul. "You built the bomb. I just pressed the detonator."
