Chapter 6 - The Fall of the TitanThe morning sun broke over the New York skyline, casting long, golden streaks across the glass facade of Carter Meridian Tower in Midtown Manhattan. But inside the fifty-fifth-floor executive boardroom, the atmosphere was as cold as a tomb.

Twelve members of the board of directors sat in absolute silence around the massive mahogany table. At the head of the table sat James Carter, wearing a sharp charcoal suit, his expression carved from granite.
The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.
Arthur Carter walked in, supported by his longtime personal attorney, Victor Vance. Arthur looked ten years older than he had the previous night. His tailored suit hung slightly loose on his frame, his hair was uncombed, and his hands trembled slightly as he gripped the handle of his leather briefcase.
“What is the meaning of this circus, James?” Arthur demanded, his voice cracking slightly as he approached the head of the table. “Calling an emergency board session at 7:00 AM? You have no authority to—"
“Sit down, Arthur,” James interrupted, not even looking up from the thick leather-bound dossier opened in front of him.
“I am the founder and chairman emeritus of this company!” Arthur shouted, slamming his hand down on the mahogany. “I built this firm before you were out of diapers! You cannot oust me without a three-fourths supermajority vote from the board!”
James slowly closed the dossier, folded his hands on the table, and finally raised his eyes to look at his father. Then, he pressed a remote control in his hand.
Behind the massive glass wall at the end of the boardroom, the smart-glass partition flickered from frosted to transparent, revealing the main trading floor and the media courtyard down below. Dozens of news vans, satellite trucks, and reporters were swarming the plaza outside the building, their camera lenses pointed directly up at the executive suite.
Simultaneously, the large television screen mounted on the boardroom wall lit up with a breaking news banner:
BREAKING NEWS: CARTER MERIDIAN CHIEF ARTHUR CARTER UNDER FEDERAL INVESTIGATION FOR EXTORTION, FRAUD, AND CORPORATE CORRUPTION. FEDERAL AGENTS EXECUTE SEARCH WARRANTS AT RESIDENTIAL ESTATE.
The boardroom erupted into chaos. Directors began shouting, whispering, and sliding their chairs backward away from Arthur as if he carried a plague.
“This... this is a fabrication!” Arthur yelled, pointing a shaking finger at his son. “A coup! He hacked our servers! He’s manipulating the board!”
“Take a look at page four of your dossier, Victor,” James said calmly, nodding toward the family lawyer.
Victor Vance slowly opened the folder in front of him. As his eyes scanned the first paragraph—detailing offshore shell accounts, illegal campaign donations used to influence judicial appointments, and the specific extortion wire transfers tied directly to Arthur’s personal signature—the lawyer’s face drained of all color. He silently closed the folder and slid it away from himself.
“Mr. Carter,” Victor whispered, refusing to look his longtime employer in the eye. “I... I think you need to retain independent criminal defense counsel immediately.”
Arthur stared at his lawyer in sheer disbelief. “You traitorous—!”
“The board has already voted,” James announced, his voice cutting through the noise like a razor blade. He tapped a printed resolution paper on the table. “Twelve to zero. Effective immediately, Arthur Carter is stripped of all voting shares, executive privileges, and corporate titles within Carter Meridian Holdings. Furthermore, all legal actions, custody injunctions, and civil claims filed against Rebecca Morgan and her family have been permanently and irrevocably dismissed with prejudice.”
Arthur staggered backward, catching himself against the edge of a mahogany chair. He looked around the table at the men and women who had nodded at his every word for thirty years. Not a single person met his gaze. Everyone was staring down at their tablets.
“You... you destroyed your own family for a nobody,” Arthur spat out, his voice shaking with bitter hatred as tears of humiliation welled up in his eyes. “You think she loves you? She’ll bleed you dry the moment she realizes what you are—just a cold, ruthless replica of me.”
James stood up slowly, towering over his father. The resemblance between them was undeniable, but where Arthur looked like a petty tyrant clinging to a crumbling throne, James looked like a king who had just secured his kingdom.

“My father died the day he decided to destroy the only person I ever loved,” James said coldly. “Security. Escort Mr. Carter out of my building.”
Four federal agents in dark suits stepped out from the private elevator alcove behind the boardroom doors, walking straight toward Arthur with handcuffs gleaming in the morning light.
