Instead, John took Sarah and the twins to a secure, unmarked safe house. He gave them everything they needed—money, protection, and a vow that their lives were now his priority.
He returned to the mansion, his face a mask of stone. Ryan was sitting in the study, nursing a drink, looking at the insurance papers for the 'reconstruction.'
"You’re back early," Ryan said, his smile tight and practiced. "Any luck at the ruins?"
"Nothing but ash," John lied, his voice steady. "But I’ve been thinking, Ryan. Who stands to inherit the manufacturing contracts if I’m declared incompetent due to 'grief-induced mental decline'?"
