John sat on the veranda, watching Ben chase the twins through the grass. Ryan was rotting in a maximum-security prison, and the company was stronger than ever under John’s reformed management.
He looked at Maya and Chloe. "I never asked why you came to the gate that morning," John said. "Why risk everything for a stranger?"
Maya looked at him and smiled—a wise, knowing smile. "Because, Mr. Morgan, our mom told us that when you lose everything, the only way to get it back is to give something to someone else. You lost your son, so we had to make sure you found him."
