Chapter 5 - SIEGE OF LAKE MICHIGAN

"Get her to the panic room underground!" Damian bellowed, drawing twin custom pistols from beneath his jacket.
"No!" Nora shouted, grabbing his arm. "I’m not hiding in another dark room while people die for me!"
Damian looked at her, rage flashing in his eyes, but beneath it was something deeper—an intense, terrifying fear of losing the only person who had ever seen him as a human being rather than a monster.
"If you die, Nora, everything I build burns anyway," Damian growled. "Valeria, protect her with your life!"
The mansion became a warzone. Automatic gunfire shredded the marble corridors, glass shattered into blinding rain, and the scent of gunpowder filled the air. Falcone’s mercenaries, armed with military-grade weapons, swarmed the upper levels.
Damian moved through his own home like a phantom of death. Every shot he fired found its mark. He was a master of close-quarters combat, fueled by the cold rage of betrayal. He cut through three gunmen in the grand hallway, advancing toward the main courtyard where his uncle, Julian Costa, stood guarded by Falcone’s top enforcer, a giant of a man known as "The Bear."
"Julian!" Damian’s voice echoed like thunder above the gunfire.
Julian, a silver-haired man in an expensive suit, turned with a triumphant sneer. "Damian! You should have died in that alley! You’re just like your father—obsessed with rules, legacy, and honor! Falcone understands modern business. We sell everything, we take everything!"
"You sold your own blood," Damian said, stepping out into the courtyard under the pouring rain.
"Blood means nothing in this city!" Julian screamed, waving his hand toward The Bear. "Kill him!"

The Bear pulled a heavy shotgun, but before he could raise it, a sniper round tore through his skull from the upper balcony. Nora stood on the second-floor terrace, holding Valeria’s high-powered rifle. Her arms were shaking violently, but her eye was pressed firmly against the scope. She had taken the shot from 50 yards away, saving Damian once again.
Julian gasped in terror as his heavy enforcer crumpled to the stone floor. He spun around to flee toward the waiting getaway speedboat at the private dock, but Damian sprinted forward, tackling his uncle into the freezing water of the bay.
