Chapter 3 - The Interruption"What is the meaning of this?" Spencer snapped, his carefully constructed composure cracking for a fraction of a second before he smoothly recovered his mask of authority. "Gregor, I told you to bring him directly to the medical facility in Zurich. Not to a boardroom."

Gregor tossed a heavy brass key onto the center of the table. It landed right on top of Spencer’s legal declaration of incompetence.

"Found it in her kitchen," Gregor grunted, gesturing toward Clara. "She assaulted one of our hounds with a metal tray last night, took him in, and tried to harbor Vance Senior. And she wouldn't let go of this key."

Clara yanked her wrists against the plastic zip-ties, glaring daggers at Spencer. "You're the coward from the black Bentley," she spat, her voice echoing off the high glass ceilings. "You watched that dog charge an old man in the snow, and you just sat there filming it on your phone like a sick freak!"

Whispers erupted around the table. Several older board members—men who had bled alongside the old man decades ago when the empire was built from dockside brawls and smuggled steel—stiffened.

Spencer’s face darkened into a dangerous mask. He walked slowly around the table, stopping inches from Clara. He looked down at her faded apron, her cheap sneakers, and the thin silver chain bracelet on her wrist.

"You're a nobody from a greasy spoon diner," Spencer whispered softly, close enough that only she could hear. "You have no idea what you've stepped into. That key doesn't unlock a door, girl. It unlocks a vault that hasn't been opened since before you were born. And if you hand it to me right now, I'll let you walk out of this building with fifty thousand dollars. Refuse, and your little diner won't exist by sunset."

Clara didn't blink. She spat right onto the polished toe of Spencer’s Italian leather shoe.
