Chapter 7 - The Final ChoiceMoretti sank slowly back into his leather chair, the fight completely drained out of him. He looked old, defeated, and utterly pathetic.

“You think killing me solves anything, Vance?” Moretti wheezed, a pathetic, bitter laugh escaping his lips. “The syndicate is bigger than me. The ledger—Rossi’s ledger—is encrypted with a multi-layered quantum algorithm. Without the biometric keys from those twin girls, the vault stays locked forever. You’ll never have peace.”

Elias didn’t flinch. He slowly reached into his inner jacket pocket and pulled out a small, sleek flash drive, placing it gently on the center of Moretti’s desk.

Moretti’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief as he stared at the device.

“What... what is that?” Moretti choked out.

“That is every offshore bank account, every corrupt politician’s dossier, and every illicit shipping manifest belonging to your entire syndicate,” Elias said smoothly. “Downloaded from your mainframe while your guards were busy trying to breach my estate.”

Moretti grabbed the edge of the desk, his knuckles turning white. “How... how did you—?”

“Because unlike you, Dante, I don’t rely on brute force alone,” Elias interrupted, straightening his cuffs. “I play chess while you’re still playing checkers.”

I stepped forward, holding my sleeping daughters against my chest, looking down at the man who had ordered my husband to throw us into the freezing snow to die.

“Victor told me once that love was a weakness,” I said, my voice cutting through the silent penthouse like a razor blade. “He was right about one thing: it’s a weakness for monsters like you. But for us... love is an unbreakable armor.”

Elias turned to me, a warm, genuine smile breaking across his harsh features for the very first time. He gently wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me close against his side.

“Marcus,” Elias called out without breaking eye contact with Moretti.

“Boss?” Marcus stepped forward from the elevator doors.

“Call the federal task force. Tell them the Moretti syndicate’s primary financial hub has just been delivered to their doorstep. Hand Dante over to the authorities. Let him spend the rest of his miserable life in a maximum-security federal prison where he belongs.”

Moretti screamed in blind rage, lunging across the desk toward us, but Marcus was faster, slamming the old mob boss face-first onto the mahogany surface and snapping steel handcuffs around his wrists.

As Moretti was dragged screaming out of the penthouse, the city lights below us twinkled like a million diamond stars against the winter night.

The nightmare was finally over.
