Chapter 7 - Ashes of the Alcázar LegacyThree months later, the sun shone brightly over Bosques de las Lomas, but the grand Alcázar mansion looked vastly different.

The heavy iron gates bore a brand-new, polished brass plaque: SOLARES FOUNDATION FOR MATERNAL HEALTH AND CHILD ADVOCACY—ESTABLISHED IN MEMORY OF INNOCENT LIVES.

Verónica stood on the front terrace, gazing out over the immaculate gardens. The mansion had undergone a complete architectural transformation. The ostentatious gold-leaf moldings and pompous family crests had been stripped away, replaced by clean, modern lines, warm lighting, and a peaceful, healing atmosphere.

The foundation now served as a sanctuary and research center for grieving mothers who had suffered the devastating loss of a child—a place of genuine empathy, medical support, and psychological counseling.

Mateo walked out onto the terrace, holding a sleek tablet and a cup of black coffee.

“The transition of the estate’s corporate charter is fully complete, Verónica,” Mateo reported, handing her the tablet. “And the final judicial auction of the remaining Alcázar family assets concluded this morning.”

Verónica took the tablet, scrolling through the legal confirmation. “What happened to Mauricio and Ofelia?”

Mateo adjusted his glasses, a slight smirk playing at the corner of his mouth. “Ofelia was admitted to a state-funded public care facility in downtown Mexico City. Her high-society friends completely erased her from their social registries; nobody even visits her. As for Mauricio… he managed to secure a job as a night-shift stock clerk at a local warehouse near the industrial zone. He lives in a tiny, windowless studio apartment three blocks away.”

Verónica nodded slowly, her expression serene. She felt no lingering malice—only the profound, beautiful lightness of a chapter completely closed.

“Good,” she murmured. “Let them live in the real world they always pretended didn't exist.”

“There’s one more thing,” Mateo added, hesitating slightly. “The media is requesting an official interview regarding your philanthropic relaunch of the estate. They want a statement on female empowerment, corporate leadership, and overcoming domestic abuse.”

Verónica looked down at her right hand—the hand that had once worn Mauricio’s ring, now bare and adorned only with a simple, elegant diamond band she had bought for herself.

“Tell them I don't give interviews about my past,” Verónica said, turning away from the terrace and stepping back into the warm, sunlit halls of her sanctuary. “Tell them I only speak about the future.”
