Chapter 1: The Bride Who Pointed at the Wrong Woman

The ballroom was everything Emily Carter had ever dreamed of.

Crystal chandeliers sparkled above hundreds of elegantly dressed guests. A string quartet played softly while champagne glasses clinked in celebration. Every influential family in the city had come to witness what everyone called the wedding of the year.

Emily smiled as she looked at her fiancé, Daniel Whitmore.

He was handsome.

Successful.

Perfect.

At least... that's what everyone believed.

Just as the officiant prepared to continue the ceremony, Emily noticed an elderly woman standing quietly near the back of the room.

She wasn't dressed like the wealthy guests.

She wore a simple silver dress, held an old clutch bag, and watched the ceremony with calm, unreadable eyes.

Emily frowned.

She didn't recognize her.

"Who invited her?" one bridesmaid whispered.

"I've never seen her before."

Another guest leaned closer.

"She doesn't belong here."

The whispers spread across the ballroom like wildfire.

Daniel glanced toward the woman for barely a second before quickly looking away.

That tiny reaction didn't escape Emily.

Something felt... wrong.

She stepped away from the altar.

The music stopped.

Every guest watched in confusion as the bride slowly walked toward the mysterious woman.

"You."

Emily's voice echoed through the silent ballroom.

"Who are you?"

The older woman smiled politely.

"I'm only here because I received an invitation."

Emily's face hardened.

"That's impossible."

"We didn't invite strangers."

The guests immediately sided with the bride.

Someone laughed.

Another guest muttered loud enough for everyone to hear,

"Probably another gold digger looking for a free dinner."

The woman never argued.

She simply reached into her purse...

...but before she could take anything out—

Emily raised her hand.

"Security."

Two guards hurried toward the woman.

"I'm giving you one chance."

"Leave before you're dragged out."

For the first time, the older woman's gentle smile disappeared.

She looked directly into Emily's eyes.

"I didn't come to ruin your wedding."

"I came to stop you from making the biggest mistake of your life."

The ballroom exploded with laughter.

Emily shook her head.

"Enough."

"I've heard every ridiculous excuse imaginable."

"If you think you can manipulate me on my wedding day..."

"...you're in the wrong place."

Daniel finally stepped forward.

His face looked strangely pale.

"Emily..."

"Maybe we should just let her leave."

Emily turned toward him.

"You know her?"

Daniel hesitated.

Only for a second.

But a second was enough.

"No..."

"I just don't want unnecessary drama."

The older woman quietly watched him.

Then she said six words that froze the air.

"Daniel... you've changed since prison."

The champagne glass slipped from Daniel's hand.

It shattered across the marble floor.

Every conversation stopped instantly.

Prison?

The groom?

Impossible.

Guests stared at Daniel in complete disbelief.

Emily laughed nervously.

"Nice try."

"My fiancé has never been arrested."

The woman slowly nodded.

"That's what he's told everyone."

She opened her purse again.

This time...

No one stopped her.

She carefully removed a worn, yellowed photograph.

The edges were cracked with age.

She held it toward Emily.

"Look closely."

Emily snatched the picture with irritation.

At first...

She rolled her eyes.

Then...

Her breathing stopped.

Standing in the center of the photograph was a much younger Daniel.

His arm was around the same elderly woman.

Both were standing outside a state correctional facility.

And written across the bottom, in faded ink, were seven chilling words:

"The day my son was finally released."

Emily slowly looked up.

Her hands were shaking.

She turned toward Daniel...

Only to discover...

He was gone.

May you like

Without saying a single word—

The groom had disappeared from his own wedding.
