Chapter 7 - The ChoiceNathan turned to Janelle, his chest heaving with suppressed rage and guilt. “I am so sorry. I never wanted them to find me here. I never wanted to drag you into my world.”

Janelle walked over to the kitchen counter, picked up her coffee mug, and took a slow sip. Her hands were shaking only slightly.
“You lied to protect your secret,” Janelle said softly, not looking at him. “And because of that, a stranger just walked into my home and threatened my daughter’s safety.”
“Janelle—”
“You need to go, Nathan,” she interrupted, her voice cracking just a little. “Go back to your penthouse. Go to your board meeting tomorrow morning. Fight for your company. That’s where you belong.”
“That’s not where I belong,” Nathan said, his voice urgent as he closed the distance between them, gently taking her hand. “I belong wherever you and Lydia are. The company... it’s just glass and numbers. I can walk away from it all today.”
Janelle looked up, tears shimmering in her eyes. “And do what? Live in hiding? You built that empire with your father’s memory. If you walk away because of me, you’ll end up right back on that park bench, regretting every second of it.”
