CHAPTER 1 — The Arrest That Should Never Have Happened

The first sound wasn't a siren.
It was flesh crashing against steel.
A deafening slam echoed through Terminal B's parking garage as seventeen-year-old Marcus Hale was thrown face-first across the hood of a black SUV.
His backpack exploded.
Textbooks.
A hoodie.
A passport.
Loose papers.
Everything scattered across the rain-soaked concrete while horrified travelers froze near the elevators.
Within seconds, dozens of phones were recording.
Officer Travis Cole forced Marcus's arm behind his back until the teenager screamed.
"Please! You're hurting me!"
Cole shoved him harder.
"You stole this vehicle."
Marcus could barely breathe.
"No! That's my father's car!"
The officer glanced at the federal license plate and laughed.
"Your father doesn't own government vehicles."
Marcus's heart pounded.
"You're making a terrible mistake..."
Cole searched the backpack.
Then he found it.
A black leather badge wallet.
The officer raised it toward the growing crowd like he had just solved the crime of the year.
"Look at this."
He flipped it in the air.
"Fake federal credentials."
People whispered.
Someone laughed.
Marcus's face turned white.
"No!"
His voice cracked.
"Don't open it!"
Cole smiled.
"Oh... now I definitely will."
The badge opened.
The smile disappeared.
His eyes widened.
Before he could finish reading—
TIRES SCREAMED.
Two armored black SUVs stormed into the garage, surrounding the patrol car from both sides.
Doors flew open.
Eight tactical agents stepped out in perfect formation.
Weapons stayed lowered.
But every movement carried absolute authority.
Then one man emerged from the center SUV.
Tall.
Gray overcoat.
Calm eyes.
No panic.
No wasted motion.
He walked directly toward Officer Cole.
"Take your hands..."
"...off my son."
Silence swallowed the entire garage.
Marcus looked up through tears.
"Dad..."
Officer Cole slowly released him.
His hands suddenly felt numb.
The badge in his hand wasn't fake.
It belonged to the Deputy Director of a classified federal task force.
Marcus's father didn't yell.
Didn't threaten.
He simply stared.
Then...
His eyes shifted toward the rear SUV.
The door was still open.
The storage compartment inside...
Was empty.
His face changed instantly.
He whispered one sentence that made every federal agent turn around.
"Where's the case?"
Marcus stopped breathing.
"It... it was there five minutes ago."
The father looked toward the elevator.
The doors were closing.
Someone inside was leaving...
With the one item capable of exposing a conspiracy worth billions.
