Chapter 4 - THE TRAP CLOSESPanic erupted around the table.

Julian stumbled backward out of his chair, crashing into the wall behind him as if I were holding a weapon. "You... you planned this? You married me on purpose?"

"Of course I did, Julian," I replied, my tone icy and matter-of-fact. "Do you honestly think a woman with my background and career would ever look twice at a pathetic, insecure mama's boy like you if I didn't have a reason? You were so blinded by your own arrogance—so convinced that every woman would fall at your feet just because of your last name—that you never bothered to run a background check on me that went deeper than the shallow dossier your family fixers threw together."

Eleanor slammed her palms onto the table, her face twisted in pure, unadulterated hatred. "You manipulative little bitch! You thought you could trap us with a fairy-tale revenge plot? We have the best lawyers in the state! We’ll tie you up in court for the next twenty years until you're bankrupt and broken!"

"Try it," I challenged, pulling a sleek legal document from my briefcase and tossing it right onto the center of the table, landing squarely on top of their precious family audit report. "Those aren't just historical documents, Eleanor. Those are copies of the federal injunctions and asset-freeze requests that were filed with the federal district court this morning at 8:00 AM."

Arthur Senior lunged forward, grabbing the document with shaking hands. His eyes scanned the first paragraph, and the paper slipped from his fingers, fluttering softly to the floor.

"A federal freeze," Arthur whispered, his voice trembling so violently he could barely form the words. "All accounts... corporate holdings... the trust..."

"Frozen," I confirmed. "Every single bank account, offshore holding, corporate subsidiary, and real estate asset held under the Sterling family name has been placed under a federal receivership pending a full investigation into generational fraud, forgery, and racketeering. Your corporate partners have already been notified. By noon today, your stock will be suspended. By tomorrow morning, your name will be stripped from every building, hospital, and charity wing you ever bought your way onto."

Julian stared at his father in sheer horror. "Dad? Is it true? Did grandfather really... did we steal everything?"

Arthur didn't answer. He slumped back into his chair, looking ten years older, the mighty titan of industry reduced to a broken old man in a matter of minutes.

"You have forty-eight hours to vacate the Georgian estate," I said, turning toward the heavy oak door of the conference room. "Because under the emergency receivership order, the property reverts immediately back to the Veridian estate trust—its rightful owner."

I paused at the threshold, looking back one last time at the family that had tried to treat me like a servant, a piece of property, a voiceless victim.

"Enjoy the laundry, Eleanor," I said with a cold smile. "You're going to have to wash your own blouses from now on."
