Chapter 3 - The Boardroom CoupMonday morning arrived with the crisp, relentless energy of a corporate storm.

I walked through the sleek glass double doors of Whitman-Sterling Logistics wearing a tailored charcoal pantsuit, towering Louboutin heels, and sunglasses that hid the faint exhaustion around my eyes. Behind me walked Marcus, my head of security, and two senior corporate attorneys from the firm’s retained legal counsel.

Employees whispered and stared as we strode past the open-plan cubicles toward the executive elevators. Word travels fast in a corporate tower; rumors about Richard’s abrupt removal from the premises over the weekend had already spread like wildfire through the digital grapevine.

"Good morning, Ms. Whitman," my executive assistant, Sarah, stammered as she rushed to meet me at the top floor. "The executive board has already assembled in the main conference room. Mr. Richard Whitman is... well, he’s inside. He arrived an hour ago with his own legal representation."

"His own legal representation?" I arched an eyebrow, pulling off my sunglasses. "On what grounds? His badge was deactivated on Saturday night."

"He claims he still holds voting shares as the executive vice president," Sarah whispered nervously.

"We’ll see about his shares," I replied coldly. "Get the projector ready. Load folder 'Omega' onto the main screen."

I didn’t even bother taking off my coat. I marched straight down the executive corridor, pushed open the heavy oak doors of the boardroom, and stepped inside.

The room went dead silent.

Richard sat at the head of the long mahogany table—my father's old seat—flanked by a greasy-looking corporate lawyer named Henderson, whom I recognized from past litigation. Richard looked disheveled; his suit was wrinkled, his hair uncombed, and dark circles bruised the skin under his eyes. He had clearly spent the entire weekend sleeping in a cheap hotel room or arguing with Brooke.

"Well, look who decided to finally show up," Richard sneered, trying to mask his underlying panic with false bravado. "Security wouldn't let me into my own home, so I figured I’d hold court where I actually matter. Sit down, Amanda. We need to discuss your irrational behavior before I strip you of your executive powers for mental instability."

The board members—old men who had worked alongside my father for decades—shifted uncomfortably in their leather chairs, casting nervous glances between Richard and me.

I didn't sit down. I walked slowly to the opposite end of the table, resting my palms on the polished wood, leaning forward slightly.

"Mental instability, Richard?" I asked, my voice cutting through the heavy air like a scalpel. "That’s an interesting diagnosis coming from a man who is currently facing federal wire fraud, grand larceny, and corporate embezzlement charges."

Henderson, the lawyer, scoffed loudly, adjusting his tie. "Ms. Whitman, baseless accusations will get you nowhere. My client is a foundational pillar of this corporation. Any financial transfers between accounts were conducted under standard executive discretion—"

"Standard executive discretion?" I interrupted, snapping my fingers at Sarah, who immediately hit the remote control on the wall.

The massive projection screen flickered to life, illuminating the dark room in a stark, cold white light.

Splashed across the screen in giant, undeniable detail was a complete visual breakdown of every single dollar Richard had stolen: the offshore shell accounts under Brooke’s maiden name, the fraudulent mortgage signatures, the fake vendor invoices, and the unauthorized wire transfers totaling $4.2 million.

Beside the financial data, a second window opened, playing silent, high-definition security footage from my home: Richard handing his bourbon to Brooke while watching his mother force my four-year-old son to crawl on the floor like a beaten dog.

The boardroom erupted into murmurs of absolute shock and disgust. Old Mr. Henderson turned pale, choking on his own spit as he stared at the financial trails linking his client directly to federal penitentiary time.

Richard leapt to his feet, his chair crashing backward onto the carpet.

"Turn that off!" he screamed, his face turning a furious, mottled purple. "You hacked those accounts! You forged those documents! This is a setup!"

"A setup?" I tilted my head, pulling a certified document from my leather portfolio and tossing it onto the table. It slid across the polished wood, stopping right at Richard's fingertips. "That is a freeze order issued by the federal district judge an hour ago. All of your personal assets, bank accounts, credit cards, and hidden trusts have been seized pending criminal proceedings."

Richard stared at the paper, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. The bravado completely evaporated, leaving behind a pathetic, cornered coward.

"Amanda... please," he whimpered, his voice cracking as he took a desperate step toward me. "We have a history. We have a family. Think of Chloe—she’s just an innocent baby—"

"Chloe is your responsibility," I said, my voice dropping an octave, ringing with absolute, unyielding finality. "And as for you, Richard? You’re done. Security, escort Mr. Whitman and his legal parasite out of my building. Permanently."
