Chapter 2: The Secret Behind Lily’s Locket

Emily froze as the armed men surrounded the alley.
Lily was still crying.
The man in the gray suit tried to hide the silver locket in his fist, but Emily saw the fear in his eyes.
“Who are you?” Emily demanded.
Before he could answer, the door of the first SUV opened.
An elderly woman stepped out, dressed in black, holding an umbrella like a queen entering a courtroom.
Her eyes locked on Lily.
Then she whispered, “My granddaughter…”
Emily’s heart stopped.
Lily looked up, confused.
“I don’t have a grandma.”
The old woman’s face cracked with pain.
“No, child. They made sure you believed that.”
The man in the gray suit stepped backward.
“Mrs. Whitmore, I can explain—”
The old woman slapped him so hard the alley went silent.
“You were paid to find her,” she said coldly. “Not sell her.”
Emily pulled Lily behind her.
“Stay away from her.”
The old woman turned to Emily.
For a moment, her expression softened.
“You protected her all these years?”
Emily nodded.
“She’s my sister.”
The old woman looked at the locket again.
Then she revealed the truth.
“Lily isn’t your sister.”
Emily felt the ground disappear beneath her.
“She is the missing heir to the Whitmore fortune.”
“And you…”
The old woman’s voice trembled.
“You are the daughter of the woman who kidnapped her.”
Emily stepped back, shaking her head.
“No. My mother saved her.”
But the gray-suited man suddenly laughed.
Everyone turned.
“Oh, Emily,” he said softly. “Your mother didn’t save Lily.”
He pointed at the orphanage director.
“She was hiding both of you.”
Then he smiled.
“Because one of you knows where the real will is buried.”
Emily’s blood ran cold.
At that moment, Lily reached into her pocket and pulled out a folded paper.
“I think Mommy wanted Emily to have this…”
Emily opened it with trembling hands.
There were only seven words written inside:
“Trust no one. Not even your blood.”
And behind them…
May you like
The orphanage director locked the gate.
