CHAPTER 1 — The Last Visitor

No one noticed the young woman until she fell to her knees beside the old man's wheelchair.

The nurses assumed she was another volunteer.

The doctor thought she was a distant relative who had finally remembered the forgotten patient.

But when the old man slowly opened his tired eyes...

...the tears rolling down his wrinkled face shocked everyone in the room.

"You're alive..." he whispered.

Those two words changed everything.

For twelve years, everyone believed that Emilio Navarro had lost his mind.

At eighty-four, confined to a wheelchair after a devastating stroke, he spent his final years hidden inside an abandoned family estate on the outskirts of San Miguel.

His own children told neighbors he suffered from dementia.

They insisted he imagined people who didn't exist.

They warned the staff never to believe anything he said.

So whenever Emilio begged someone to find "my granddaughter," nobody listened.

Not even once.

Because according to the official family story...

...his only granddaughter had died seventeen years ago.

Yet every birthday, every Christmas, every Father's Day...

Emilio asked for exactly the same thing.

"Leave the front gate unlocked."

"They'll come home one day."

The servants pitied him.

His sons laughed.

His daughter called him delusional.

Eventually, even the nurses stopped answering.

Until that rainy afternoon.

The young woman entered carrying nothing except an old leather satchel and a faded photograph.

She wasn't dressed like someone wealthy.

She wore a black sweater, worn-out jeans, and shoes soaked by the rain.

Her eyes looked as though she hadn't slept for days.

No one recognized her.

Not even the housekeeper who had worked there for nearly twenty years.

"Can I help you?" the nurse asked politely.

The woman didn't answer.

Instead, she stared at Emilio.

Her breathing became heavier with every step.

Then...

...she reached into the satchel.

Everyone expected flowers.

Or medicine.

Instead...

...she placed a faded photograph into the old man's trembling hands.

A picture taken twenty-two years earlier.

An elderly man smiling beside a tiny little girl with curly dark hair.

On the back of the photo, written in faded blue ink, were five heartbreaking words.

"I'll come back, Grandpa. I promise."

Emilio's hands began shaking uncontrollably.

The wheelchair creaked.

His lips trembled.

Then...

For the first time in over a decade...

...the old man stood up.

Only for a few seconds.

Just long enough to wrap both trembling arms around the young woman before collapsing back into the chair.

The nurse screamed.

The doctor rushed forward.

Everyone believed Emilio was having another stroke.

But he wasn't.

He was crying.

Not because he was dying.

Because he had just recognized the one person his family had spent seventeen years trying to erase.

"My little Isabella..."

His voice cracked.

"You kept your promise..."

Silence swallowed the room.

The nurse looked from the old man to the woman.

"Isabella?" she whispered.

"But... the family said..."

The young woman slowly wiped away her tears.

"They buried someone else."

The room froze.

Even the doctor stopped moving.

Nobody understood.

Nobody dared speak.

Outside...

A black luxury SUV rolled through the front gate.

Inside were Emilio's three children.

They had just received an emergency call informing them that someone had visited their father.

The moment they saw the young woman through the window...

Every color disappeared from their faces.

One of the brothers whispered in terror...

"No..."

"That's impossible."

"We made sure she never came back."

And at that exact moment...

The old man smiled for the first time in seventeen years.

Because the granddaughter everyone believed was dead...

...had finally returned.

But what nobody inside that house knew...

...was that Isabella hadn't come back to reunite with her grandfather.

She had come back carrying proof that someone in the Navarro family had committed a crime worth over $180 million.

And before the night was over...

One member of the family would desperately try to silence her forever.
