Chapter 6 - The Shattered TrustThe following night, the grand ballroom of the Hale Plaza Hotel was a blinding spectacle of flashing cameras, clinking champagne glasses, and whispering socialites. The runway lights pulsed in rhythm with ambient electronic music, and front-row seats were occupied by fashion editors, investors, and celebrities.

Backstage, models were rushing through quick changes, zippers hissing, heels clicking against the floor.
Lena stood in the shadows of the wings, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. In her hand, clutched tightly in her pocket, was the printed copy of the fraudulent contract amendment.
The show was a triumph. When the final model walked the runway wearing the breathtaking midnight-blue gown Lena had labored over, the applause was deafening. Flashbulbs strobed across the stage.
From the front row, Eleanor Hale beamed with pride, clapping enthusiastically. Next to her stood Julian, his face breaking into a rare, genuine smile of profound satisfaction.
As the music faded and the house lights came up, Julian walked backstage, parting the crowd of models and assistants to reach Lena.
"You did it," Julian said, his eyes shining with triumph. He reached out to take her hands. "The critics are calling it the debut of the decade. Investors are already lining up to fund your standalone retail expansion."
Lena didn't take his hands. Instead, she stepped back, pulling the folded document from her pocket and letting it drop onto the table between them.
Julian’s smile faltered. He looked down at the paper, then back up at Lena’s face.
"What is this?" Julian asked, his voice dropping into a dangerous, cold register.
"You tell me," Lena said, her voice shaking with a mixture of heartbreak and fury. "You told me it was a fifty-fifty partnership. You told me you wanted to give me a chance because I had character. But this contract amendment... it strips away every single right I have to my own designs. It makes me an employee in my own company."
Julian stared at the paper, his jaw tightening so hard a muscle twitched. "Where did you get this?"
"Does it matter where I got it?" Lena cried, tears pricking the corners of her eyes. "Is it true? Did you buy my life before I even knew what I was signing?"
Before Julian could answer, a familiar, smooth voice cut through the backstage noise.
"Of course it's true, sweet-heart," Marcus Hale sauntered out from behind a rack of velvet dresses, a glass of champagne in his hand. He looked smug, his eyes glittering with triumph. "My dear brother doesn't do charity. He collects assets. And right now, you are his most profitable new acquisition."
Julian spun around, his voice exploding with raw fury. "Marcus! I swear to God, if you leaked this—"
May you like
"I didn't leak it, big brother. I just opened her eyes," Marcus smiled coldly, stepping toward Lena. "Julian set up the whole thing from day one. He knew who you were before you even met at that bakery. He staged the whole encounter to control your talent."
Lena stopped breathing. She looked from Marcus to Julian, her voice a hollow whisper. "Is that true, Julian? Did you... did you plan the bakery?"
