CHAPTER 4 – The Secret Ryan Took to His Grave

The judge ordered a recess, but no one moved.

Everyone wanted to know what was inside the final file.

Emily stood frozen, staring at the screen.

The file name was simple:

EMILY_TRUTH.mp4

Her hands began to tremble.

Daniel noticed immediately.

“Emily,” he whispered. “What is that?”

She didn’t answer.

The court technician looked at the judge.

“Should I play it?”

The judge hesitated.

Then Emily spoke.

“Play it.”

The video began.

Ryan appeared again, sitting in his office. This time, he wasn’t afraid.

He looked heartbroken.

“If this file is opened, then Emily has already found the truth.”

Emily covered her mouth.

Ryan continued.

“Emily, I’m sorry I lied to you.”

The courtroom went silent.

“I married you because I loved you. But there was another reason I kept you close.”

Emily’s tears fell.

“Your father didn’t abandon you when you were a child.”

Her breath stopped.

“He was murdered.”

A murmur spread through the courtroom.

Ryan leaned closer to the camera.

“And the man who ordered it… was my father.”

Emily stumbled backward.

Ethan suddenly stopped smiling.

Ryan’s voice grew heavier.

“The Carter family built its empire on stolen land, bribery, and blood. Emily’s father found proof years ago. He tried to expose us. My father silenced him.”

Emily shook her head, unable to breathe.

“For years, I carried that guilt. I married Emily because I wanted to protect her. But then I fell in love with her for real.”

Daniel stared at her, stunned.

Ryan continued.

“Ethan found out I planned to give Emily controlling shares of Carter Industries. That’s why he wanted me dead.”

Then Ryan said the sentence that changed everything.

“But Emily is not just my wife.”

He paused.

“She is the rightful heir to everything the Carter family stole.”

Ethan screamed.

“Turn it off!”

But it was too late.

Ryan’s final words echoed through the courtroom.

“Emily, if I’m gone, don’t just clear Daniel’s name.”

“Take back what was yours.”

Emily slowly wiped her tears.

Then she turned to Ethan.

This time, she wasn’t a widow.

She wasn’t a victim.
