Viral Headline: She Found A Secret Hatch Under The Rug—And Inside Was Her Maid's Dead Husband!Eleanor dropped the medical file, her hands trembling so violently that the papers scattered across the floor. Arthur Vance was alive. For ten years, Clara had wept for a dead husband, her children had grown up orphans, and all the while, Julian had kept him locked away like a shameful secret in a dark cage.
"Looking for something, my love?"
Eleanor whipped around. Julian was standing in the doorway, the shadows masking his face, but the moonlight catching the wicked glint of a silver revolver in his hand.
"Julian..." Eleanor breathed, trying to push the papers back into the safe with her foot. "You... you lied to everyone. He's alive."
Julian stepped into the room, closing the door softly behind him. "Arthur Vance is a stubborn man. He wouldn't give me the location of the documents that could destroy the Whitmore empire. So, I kept him alive. I assumed eventually, his mind would break and he would tell me. But ten years later, he still breathes, and his wretched wife shows up on my doorstep."
"Did you poison her son?" Eleanor demanded, tears of rage blinding her. "Did you try to kill a child?"
"I didn't poison anyone, Eleanor," Julian said, his voice eerily calm as he raised the gun, pointing it directly at her chest. "But my mother is a woman of action. She handles... messy details when I am too sentimental to do so. She wanted that family gone. But now, you've compromised everything. My own wife, a traitor."
Before Julian could pull the trigger, the study door flew open. Clara stood there, holding a heavy silver candelabra. With a scream of pure maternal fury, she slammed the heavy silver object against the side of Julian’s head.
CRACK.
Julian groaned, the gun flying from his hand as he collapsed onto the hardwood floor, unconscious and bleeding from his temple.
Clara fell to the floor, panting, staring at Julian’s limp body. "Madam... I heard voices... I came to find you..."
Eleanor scrambled across the floor, grabbing the dropped revolver, and then grabbed Clara’s shoulders. "Clara, listen to me. We don't have time. Your husband... Arthur... he isn't dead."
Clara’s eyes went completely wide. "What? No... I saw the ash... I saw the ruins..."

"It was a cover-up," Eleanor said, thrusting the medical file into Clara’s hands. "Julian has him at the Blackwood Sanatorium. They are keeping him drugged. We have to go right now, before Julian wakes up, and before his mother realizes what we've done."
