Chapter 5 - The Asylum Breakout

Viral Headline: A Stormy Night, A Stolen Carriage, And A Lethal Confrontation Inside The Madhouse Walls! The rain poured in merciless sheets as Eleanor driven the carriage through the rusted iron gates of Blackwood Sanatorium. The building looked like a Gothic fortress, looming over the jagged cliffs of the countryside.

"We have to be fast," Eleanor said, concealing Julian's revolver in the folds of her wet cloak. Clara nodded, her face a mask of fierce determination. The thought of her husband being alive had wiped away any fear she possessed.

They bribed the night guard with Eleanor’s diamond necklace—a glittering piece of high society traded for a chance at freedom. The guard, greedy and unconcerned, pointed them toward the subterranean levels. "Cell 4B. But hurry. Management said we're expecting visitors tonight."

The air in the basement was thick with the smell of damp stone and chemical sedatives. Eleanor and Clara sprinted down the hallway until they found the heavy iron door labeled 4B.

Through the small barred window, Clara caught sight of the man inside. He was thin, his hair completely white, half his face heavily scarred, but his eyes—those were the eyes of the man she loved.

"Arthur!" Clara cried, throwing her weight against the door.

The man on the cot stirred, his head lifting slowly. "Clara...? No... it's a dream... the drugs..."

Eleanor used a heavy iron ring of keys they had snatched from the guard’s desk, trying them one by one until the lock turned. The door swung open, and Clara threw herself into her husband's arms, weeping uncontrollably.

"We have to move, Arthur. Can you walk?" Eleanor asked urgently, looking back down the dark corridor.

Arthur managed to stand, leaning heavily on Clara. "Julian... he wanted the ledger... the proof that he burned the mill... I never told him... I hid it..."

"We know, Arthur. We're getting you out," Eleanor said.

But as they turned to escape, a cold laugh echoed down the hallway.

From the shadows emerged Julian, a white bandage wrapped tightly around his bleeding head. Beside him stood Lady Beatrice, flanked by three heavily armed private security guards.

"An touching family reunion," Julian sneered, raising his own weapon. "Did you really think you could outrun me, Eleanor? In my own city? On my own property?"

Lady Beatrice sighed, adjusting her lace gloves. "Finish this, Julian. Kill the maid, kill the husband, and make it look like Eleanor was kidnapped by them. We can clean up this mess by morning."

Julian smiled, leveling the gun directly at Arthur's heart. "Goodbye, Arthur. Ten years too late."

The Chapter 5 Hook: A deafening gunshot echoed through the stone corridor. A body fell heavily to the floor, blood pooling rapidly on the cold concrete. But it wasn't Arthur, Clara, or Eleanor who had been shot. Julian staggered backward, staring in absolute shock at his own chest, where a crimson stain was blooming.
