Chapter 1 - The Bloodline Ledger

"She Isn't Your Daughter!"The hush in the Grand Starlight Ballroom was suffocating. Every billionaire, senator, and high-society mogul in the city stood frozen as red wine dripped like arterial blood from the edge of the marble stage.

Victoria Vance, clad in a custom $50,000 silk emerald dress, felt her heart hammer against her ribs. Her hand was still burning from the force of the slap. She had meant to put a careless servant in her place—a common bug under her designer heel. But the five words whispered from the floor had struck her like a bullet:

"Happy birthday, my sister."

The room’s air turned to ice. On the floor, the young server wiped a mixture of tears and fine vintage Cabernet from her bruised cheek. Her name tag read Lily. Beneath the wine stains, her pale face bore a uncanny, terrifying resemblance to the vintage oil paintings hanging in the Vance ancestral estate.

"What absurd lie are you telling?!" Victoria shrieked, though her voice betrayed a frantic quiver. "Guards! Throw this trash out onto the street! She’s delusional!"

Before the security detail could move, a deafening crash echoed from the head table.

Eleanor Vance—the ruthless matriarch of the Vance Pharmaceutical empire—was clutching her chest. Her face was as white as the triple-strand South Sea pearls around her throat. Her eyes were locked not on Victoria, but on the small, tarnished silver locket hanging around Lily’s blood-stained collar.

"The... the Phoenix Crest," Eleanor gasped, her voice breaking into a dry sob. "That locket... only one was ever made. It was buried with my baby girl twenty years ago."

"Mother, don't listen to her!" Victoria yelled, her emerald gown swooshing as she stepped toward Eleanor. "It’s a scam! She’s an imposter trying to ruin my birthday gala!"

Lily slowly pushed herself up. Though her uniform was torn and her face cut by broken glass, her posture was unnervingly graceful. She looked straight into Eleanor's tear-filled eyes and reached into her apron pocket, pulling out a faded, water-damaged document bound in black leather.

"I’m not here for your money, Matriarch Vance," Lily said, her voice clear and chillingly calm. "I’m here to deliver a message from the dead. Twenty years ago, the driver didn't crash the car by accident. And the baby in the river wasn't stolen by strangers. It was sold."

Eleanor stumbled forward, ignoring her daughter's frantic hand grasping her arm. "Sold by whom?"

Lily pointed a trembling, blood-stained finger directly at Victoria.

"By the woman standing next to you—or rather, by her real mother."

A collective gasp rippled through the hundreds of guests. Victoria’s face flushed pale, her eyes wild with terror.

CHAPTER 1 HOOK: Before Eleanor could demand an explanation, the ballroom lights suddenly plunged into complete darkness. A single gunshot echoed through the grand hall, followed by a scream that cut straight to the bone.
