Chapter 6 - The Public ExecutionThe hospital lobby was chaotic.

Reporters held microphones, camera lights flashed, and Elena stood in the center, weeping dramatically into a handkerchief alongside a high-powered defense attorney in an expensive suit.

“My daughter Paola is an innocent victim of a tragic family misunderstanding!” Elena cried to the cameras, her voice echoing off the glass walls. “Maya has always been jealous of our family! She’s using a tragic premature birth to tear my family apart and destroy my daughter’s life!”

The crowd of reporters began shouting questions as Alejandro walked out of the elevator doors, pushing my wheelchair.

“Mr. Vance! Is it true your wife is framing your sister?!” a reporter shouted, pushing a microphone forward.

Elena pointed a finger at us, her eyes wide with frantic desperation. “Alejandro! Tell them! Tell the world that your sister loved you! Tell them Maya is lying!”

Alejandro stopped the wheelchair in front of the bank of television cameras. He didn't look angry; he looked ice-cold and utterly composed.

He pulled out a thick stack of papers—the police evidence reports provided by Detective Miller—and held them up in front of the main camera lens.

“My name is Alejandro Ross,” he said calmly into the microphones. “And this is my wife, Maya. Three days ago, my sister, Paola Ross, spiked my pregnant wife’s drink with stolen, high-potency labor-inducing chemicals.”

The reporters gasped. The news cameras zoomed in on the papers in his hand.

“When the poison began tearing through my wife’s body,” Alejandro continued, his voice echoing with absolute authority, “Paola trapped her on our balcony in twenty-degree weather, watched her collapse through the glass, and left her to die.”

“That’s a lie! He’s lying!” Elena shrieked, trying to rush forward, but hospital security blocked her path.

“And here,” Alejandro said, pulling out the final document and slapping it against the podium, “is the $1.5 million life insurance policy Paola forged in my name six weeks ago—taking out a hit on my wife and my unborn child’s lives for money.”

The lobby went dead silent.

The attorney standing next to Elena looked at the document, his eyes widening in absolute shock. He turned his head slowly toward Elena, whispered something in her ear, dropped his briefcase, and walked straight out of the hospital doors, abandoning her on live television.

Elena’s face drained of every drop of color. “No... no... Paola told me... she said it was just a policy for...”

“You stood by her while she insulted my wife for months,” Alejandro said, stepping up to his mother, his voice cold enough to cut glass. “You enabled her cruelty. You blamed Maya for every terrible thing Paola ever did. And now, you come here to defend a woman who tried to murder your own granddaughter for cash.”

“Alejandro, please!” Elena sobbed, reaching out to touch his arm. “She’s your sister! We are blood!”

“You are no longer my mother,” Alejandro said flatly, stepping back. “And if you ever come near my wife, my daughter, or my home again, I will have you arrested for criminal harassment and conspiracy.”

Alejandro turned to the reporters and their flashing cameras.

“To anyone watching this,” he said coldly, “Paola Ross is not a victim. She is a predator. And we will see her in court.”

He turned my wheelchair around and pushed me back toward the elevators, leaving Elena standing alone under the harsh glare of the TV lights, utterly disgraced as the reporters swarmed her like vultures.
