CHAPTER 1 — The Forgotten Basement
The old farmhouse had stood abandoned for nearly fifty years.
Locals whispered that strange lights appeared in its windows every winter, even though no one had lived there since the mysterious disappearance of the Whitmore family in 1927.
Emma Carter didn't believe ghost stories.
As an investigative journalist obsessed with solving forgotten mysteries, she believed every legend had a logical explanation. When she inherited the crumbling farmhouse from a distant relative she had never met, she assumed it was nothing more than an old property worth selling.
Until she unlocked the basement.
The heavy wooden door groaned as years of dust exploded into the air. A freezing wind rushed past her although every window upstairs was closed.
Her flashlight flickered.
The basement was enormous—far larger than the house above should have allowed.
In the center sat a tiny wooden table.
As if someone had been waiting for her.
Resting on the table was an ancient leather diary, untouched by dust. Beside it lay a silver pocket watch that had stopped ticking at exactly 11:47.
Emma reached toward the diary.
The moment her fingers touched its cover...
The watch suddenly started ticking again.
Tick...
Tick...
Tick...
Her heart froze.
She slowly opened the first page.
Written in elegant handwriting were only seven words.
"If you're reading this... it's already too late."
She laughed nervously.
Someone had obviously planted the book here.
But as she turned another page, her smile disappeared.
The diary described events from exactly one hundred years ago...
Every disappearance...
Every death...
Every accident...
All written days before they happened.
Impossible.
Then a folded letter slipped onto the floor.
Its ink looked fresh.
Not faded.
Fresh.
Emma unfolded it with trembling hands.
Her blood turned to ice.
The letter ended with a single sentence.
"Emma Carter will arrive here on July 7... and she must never read the final page."
