Richard Hale slowly applauded.
"I've waited twenty-eight years for this reunion."
Juliet stared.
"You killed my father."
Richard chuckled.
"No."
"He refused to kill someone."
Maxwell stepped forward.
"Who?"
Richard looked directly at him.
"You."
Silence.
Even the gunfire outside seemed distant.

Juliet couldn't breathe.
"My father refused?"
"He carried the boy out of the fire instead."
Richard smiled without warmth.
