CHAP 2: THE LION’S DEN — THE PRICE OF A MOTHER'S BLOOD

Viral Title: 🚨 THE TRAP IS SPRUNG! The terrifying moment the loan sharks arrived at Linda's house, only to find the police waiting. But the real shocker? What Daniel's wife did to save her own skin will leave you SPEECHLESS! 😱🔥

The clock in the hallway chimed nine times. Each strike felt like a countdown to execution.

Daniel remained on his knees, his fingers clutching the edge of the lace tablecloth so tightly his knuckles turned white. His breathing was ragged, a pathetic, sniveling sound that filled the elegant kitchen. Marissa stood behind him, her eyes darting wilding around the room like a cornered animal searching for an escape route. Her polished facade was completely gone, replaced by a raw, ugly desperation.

"Linda, please," Marissa pleaded, stepping forward, her voice shaking. "We can work this out. We’re family. Daniel is your only son! If you let Marcus do this, you’ll destroy his life! Is that what you want? To see your own flesh and blood behind bars? What would Robert say if he were here?"

Linda slowly stood up from her chair. The movement was deliberate, carrying the dignity of a woman who had spent decades maintaining her grace under pressure. She walked over to the kitchen window and looked out.

The morning light painted the yard in soft gold. The magnolia tree Robert had planted stood tall and proud, its deep green leaves shimmering. Beneath it, the driveway was empty—for now. But she knew that would not last.

"My husband," Linda began, her voice steady and low, "was a gentle man. But he was also a protector. If Robert were alive today, Daniel, you would not be kneeling on this floor begging me. You would be running for your life from him. He taught you how to be a man, how to respect women, how to work for what you want. He did not teach you to strike your mother because she refused to fund your greed."

"Mom, I'm sorry!" Daniel cried out, tears finally spilling over his cheeks. "I didn't mean to! I was stressed, the debt was piling up, and Marissa kept pushing me, saying we had to get the house or we'd lose everything! It was her idea! She told me to do whatever it took!"

"You coward!" Marissa screamed, her face contorting in rage as she glared down at her husband. "You weak, pathetic little boy! It was my idea? You’re the one who failed at three different businesses! You’re the one who dragged me into your pathetic, debt-ridden life! I only tried to help you get what was rightfully yours!"

"Rightfully mine?" Daniel yelled back, standing up and shoving his wife. "This is my parents' house! It is mine! She’s just holding onto it out of spite!"

"Enough," Marcus’s voice cut through their screaming match like a physical barrier. He walked over to the kitchen door, opened it, and gestured outside. "Save your arguments for the courtroom. Your two hours have started. I suggest you go to the guesthouse and pack. If you are still here when the clock strikes ten, I will personally sign the arrest warrant for elder abuse and domestic assault."

Daniel looked at his mother, searching her face for even a glimmer of the soft, forgiving woman who had spent thirty-eight years shielding him from the consequences of his actions. He saw nothing. Her eyes were like flat, gray stones.

Realizing he would find no mercy there, Daniel grabbed Marissa’s arm, dragging her out of the kitchen. Their frantic arguments echoed down the hallway as they ran back toward the guesthouse.

Linda let out a long, slow breath. Her hand trembled slightly as she placed it on the counter to steady herself.

"Are you alright, Linda?" Marcus asked, his tough exterior softening as he looked at his sister-in-law. He stepped closer, offering a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"I am fine, Marcus," she said, though her voice carried the weight of a shattered heart. "I have been fine for a long time. I just... I never thought it would come to this. I kept hoping that if I gave him enough chances, he would find his way back to the boy he used to be."

"Some people don't want to be saved, Linda," Marcus said gently. "They just want to be served. You’ve served him your entire life. It’s time for him to pay his own bill."

Marcus’s phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out, looked at the screen, and a grim smile spread across his face. "The local Sheriff’s deputies are parked down the road, waiting for my signal. And our 'guests' from the city have just entered the neighborhood. Two black SUVs."

"Let them in, Marcus," Linda said, her face hardening once more. "Let them see exactly what kind of contract they signed."

Ten minutes later, the heavy gravel of the driveway crunched under the tires of two large, dark vehicles. They parked directly in front of the main house, blocking Daniel’s car.

From the lead SUV, three men stepped out. They wore expensive, tailored suits, but there was nothing professional about the way they carried themselves. The man in the lead was Viktor Vance—no relation to Marcus, though the coincidence of the name had always amused Robert. Viktor was a notorious private lender who operated in the grey areas of high-finance debt collection. He was a man who didn't use courts to settle disputes; he used baseball bats and concrete.

Viktor walked up the steps of the wrap-around porch and knocked heavily on the front door.

Linda did not hide. She walked directly to the door and opened it herself. Marcus stood just behind her, his arms crossed over his broad chest.

Viktor looked at Linda, his eyes lingering on her bruised cheek. He raised an eyebrow, a cold, knowing smirk playing on his lips. "Mrs. Vance? I believe we have an appointment today. Your son, Daniel, assured me that you would have the signed deed transfer ready for us this morning. We’re here to collect the collateral on his four hundred thousand dollar outstanding debt."

"Good morning, Mr. Vance," Linda said, her voice clear and loud enough to carry across the front yard. "You are half-right. You are here to collect, but you will not be collecting this house."

Viktor’s smile vanished. "Excuse me? Your son signed an agreement—"

"My son signed a forged document," Marcus stepped forward, his voice booming. "I am Marcus Vance, retired Federal Prosecutor and executor of the estate. The deed of this house is held under an irrevocable family trust. Linda Vance does not even have the legal authority to sign it over to anyone without my co-signature, which you do not have and will never get. The document your son gave you is a worthless piece of paper. You have been defrauded."

Viktor’s face went dark. He turned to his associates, then back to Marcus. "If this is a joke—"

"It is no joke," Marcus said. "And if you want your money, I suggest you look toward the guesthouse. Because the person who defrauded you is currently packing his bags to run away."

Right on cue, the side door of the guesthouse burst open. Daniel and Marissa appeared, dragging heavy suitcases behind them, completely unaware that the front driveway was already occupied.

When Daniel saw the two black SUVs and Viktor standing on the porch, he froze. His suitcase slipped from his hand, clattering down the wooden steps.

"Daniel," Viktor said, his voice dropping to a terrifyingly quiet register. "We need to talk."
