CHAP 3: THE PREGNANCY TRAP — MARISSA’S ULTIMATE BETRAYAL

Viral Title: 🚨 THE ULTIMATE PLOT TWIST! Just as the loan sharks closed in, Marissa dropped a bombshell that changed EVERYTHING. But Linda was three steps ahead! You won't believe what the security footage revealed! 😱💥

The silence on the front lawn was thick enough to choke on.

Daniel stood paralyzed at the bottom of the guesthouse steps, his eyes darting from Viktor’s cold, unblinking glare to the two heavy-set men standing behind the loan shark. His breathing was so loud it could be heard from the porch.

"Viktor... please," Daniel stammered, raising his hands in a defensive gesture. "I can explain. The paperwork... it’s just a temporary delay. My mother is just being difficult, but we’re working it out. I just need a few more days—"

"A few more days?" Viktor walked slowly down the porch steps, his leather shoes clicking sharply on the concrete. His associates followed close behind, their hands tucked inside their suit jackets. "Daniel, you told me the deed was already in escrow. You told me your mother was elderly and eager to move into an assisted living home. You signed your name under penalty of perjury."

"He lied to you, Viktor," Marissa’s voice suddenly rang out, sharp and clear.

Daniel snapped his head around to look at his wife. "Marissa? What are you doing?"

Marissa dropped the handle of her designer suitcase and stepped away from Daniel, putting several feet of distance between them. She smoothed down her expensive trench coat, her face cold and calculated.

"I had nothing to do with this," Marissa said, looking directly at Viktor, then at Marcus and Linda on the porch. "Daniel forced me to go along with it. He’s the one who forged Linda’s signature. He has a gambling problem, Viktor. He’s been hiding it for years. He lost all that money in private online poker games, and then he used your company to cover his losses. I didn't know anything about the forgery until last night."

"Marissa, you lying piece of trash!" Daniel screamed, his face turning red with fury. "You were the one who filled out the application! You were the one who looked up my mother’s social security number and forged her signature on the digital portal because your handwriting was better than mine!"

"Do you have any proof of that, Daniel?" Marissa sneered, her eyes flashing with venom. "Because all the accounts are in your name. The loan was deposited into your personal account. I am just an innocent wife who was dragged into your mess."

She turned back to Linda, her expression instantly shifting into one of pathetic, tearful desperation. "Linda, you have to help me. I know you hate me, but you have to protect me from him. I didn't want him to hit you last night! I was terrified! And... and there’s something else you need to know. Something that changes everything."

Marissa took a deep breath, placing both of her hands over her flat stomach.

"I'm pregnant, Linda," Marissa cried, tears flowing freely down her cheeks now. "I’m carrying your grandchild. Your only grandchild. The legacy of Robert Vance. If you let these people take us away, or if you put us in jail, you are destroying your own family’s future. You can’t let your grandchild be born in a prison cell!"

Daniel gasped, his jaw dropping. "You’re... you’re pregnant? Marissa, why didn't you tell me?"

Marcus narrowed his eyes, looking at Marissa with deep skepticism. "A very convenient medical update, Marissa. Do you happen to have any medical records to support this claim?"

"Of course I do!" Marissa snapped, reaching into her purse and pulling out a folded piece of paper. "I went to the clinic last week. I have the ultrasound right here! I was going to tell Daniel tonight, but... but everything fell apart!"

She held the paper out toward Linda, her hands trembling. "Please, Linda. For the sake of the baby. For Robert’s memory. Don't do this to us."

Linda looked at the paper, then at Marissa’s tear-stained face. For a moment, the silence on the lawn was absolute. Even Viktor and his men stood still, waiting to see how the matriarch of the family would react to this new development.

Slowly, Linda stepped down from the porch. She walked across the grass, her steps elegant and unhurried. She stopped in front of Marissa, looking down at the folded paper in her hands.

"A grandchild," Linda said softly, her voice carrying a strange, unreadable tone.

"Yes, Linda! A little boy or girl. A Vance," Marissa pleaded, thinking she had finally found the golden ticket to escape the trap.

Linda reached out and took the paper from Marissa’s hand. She didn't unfold it. Instead, she looked directly into Marissa’s eyes.

"Marissa, do you remember the bookshelf in the living room?" Linda asked.

Marissa blinked, confused. "The... the bookshelf? What does that have to do with—"

"The bookshelf where Robert used to build his model ships," Linda continued, her voice growing cold. "The one where I placed the small black camera. The camera that recorded Daniel striking me last night."

Marissa’s breath hitched.

"That camera is not just a video recorder, Marissa," Linda said. "It is also connected to a high-fidelity audio system. And it records twenty-four hours a day. Including the conversation you had on the back porch of the guesthouse at two o’clock this morning."

Linda handed the folded paper back to Marissa without looking at it.

"Marcus," Linda called out over her shoulder. "Would you please play the audio from last night? The one from 2:14 AM?"

Marcus smiled—a grim, satisfied smile. He tapped his tablet.

A new audio recording began to play through the tablet's speakers, amplified by the outdoor security system's speakers mounted under the porch roof.

“Are you sure the old b*h doesn't know about the money?” Marissa’s recorded voice was clear, completely devoid of the tears and desperation she was currently displaying.

“She’s clueless,” a man’s voice replied. But it wasn’t Daniel’s voice. It was a smoother, deeper voice.

“Good. Once Daniel signs the deed and we get the cash from Viktor, we’re leaving him behind, right? He’s too stupid to realize we’ve been laundering his funds through your account,” Marissa’s voice said on the recording, followed by a soft, intimate laugh and the distinct sound of kissing.

“Of course, baby. Daniel is taking the fall for everything. The forgery, the fraud, all of it. Let him go to jail. We’ll be in Cabo with half a million dollars before the police even file the report. And that fake ultrasound you bought online? Perfect touch. The old lady will do anything to protect a 'grandchild'.”

Daniel’s face went from pale to completely purple. He looked at Marissa, his eyes bulging with a mixture of shock, betrayal, and pure, unadulterated rage.

"You... you dirty, lying whe!" Daniel screamed, lunging at Marissa.
