CHAPTER 2 – Seven Words That Ended the Wedding

At first, everyone believed Ethan was walking toward Isabella.

Surely he would calm his furious bride.

Instead...

He walked straight past her.

The ballroom became eerily silent.

Ignoring the photographers...

Ignoring the guests...

Ignoring the wedding planner desperately trying to continue the ceremony...

Ethan knelt beside Margaret.

He gently took her bleeding hand into his own.

His voice trembled.

"Mom..."

Margaret looked up, shocked.

"Ethan... please... don't make a scene."

But he was already crying.

He carefully removed his own white handkerchief and wrapped her injured finger.

Then he slowly stood.

The room watched in complete disbelief.

Isabella laughed nervously.

"What are you doing?"

"Ethan, stop embarrassing yourself."

He turned toward her.

His eyes no longer carried love.

Only disappointment.

"You asked security to throw away the woman who spent twenty-seven years raising me."

The guests looked at one another.

Some whispered.

"What?"

"His mother?"

"But I thought she died years ago..."

Ethan took a deep breath.

"My father died when I was six."

"My mother worked three jobs."

"She cleaned offices."

"She planted flowers."

"She washed dishes."

"She skipped meals so I could eat."

He looked at Margaret with tears.

"She never wanted attention."

"She only wanted me to have a better life."

Margaret quietly wiped her eyes.

"I told him never to tell anyone what I did for a living."

"I didn't want people judging him because of me."

Isabella's face turned pale.

"Ethan... I didn't know."

He nodded.

"Exactly."

"You never asked."

"You never cared."

"You've spent two years judging people by the price of their clothes."

The guests became visibly uncomfortable.

Some lowered their heads.

Others recorded everything on their phones.

One elderly guest quietly began clapping.

Soon...

Several others joined.

Not for the bride.

For Margaret.

Isabella desperately reached for Ethan's hand.

"We can fix this."

"It was just one mistake."

He gently stepped backward.

"No."

"It wasn't one mistake."

"It was the first time I finally saw who you truly are."

The wedding officiant slowly closed the ceremony book.

No one said a word.

Then Ethan calmly removed the wedding ring from his pocket.

He placed it on the altar.

And quietly spoke seven words that shattered Isabella's perfect dream forever.

"She is my mother. The wedding is over."

The orchestra stopped playing.

The photographers lowered their cameras.

May you like

The luxurious wedding had ended...

Without a marriage.
