Chapter 2 - The InterruptionThe double doors of the Grand Horizon Ballroom burst open with a resounding bang that instantly drowned out the wedding march.

The music ground to a grinding halt. Two hundred pairs of eyes whipped away from the dance floor, where Chloe and Mason were mid-waltz, their synchronized smiles freezing on their faces.

My father, Richard, stood near the head table, a fresh glass of champagne raised in his hand, ready to announce the cutting of the cake. He blinked, his face flushing crimson as he spotted me stepping through the threshold. But it wasn't my presence that made the glass slip from his fingers and shatter against the parquet floor.

It was the man walking beside me.

"Arthur?" My father’s voice squeaked, the confident patriarch evaporating into a stuttering ghost. "Arthur Reed? What... what are you doing here? This is a private family celebration—"

"Quiet, Richard," Arthur’s voice boomed across the cavernous room, amplified slightly by the acoustics, silencing every single murmur. He didn't break stride as he walked straight down the center aisle, his legal team parting the stunned crowd like a biblical sea.

My mother, Sarah, swept out from behind the bridal table, her sequined gown catching the chandelier light. Her expression twisted from festive joy into sheer, unadulterated panic.

"Arthur! You... you weren't invited to this," she stammered, dabbing frantically at her brow with a lace handkerchief. "This is Chloe’s special day. If this is about the commercial restructuring, we can discuss it on Monday at the office—"

"There is no office left for you on Monday, Sarah," Arthur said coldly, stopping dead five feet away from the bridal stage. He turned his head slowly, looking at the white satin box resting beside the tiered cake—the box containing the fake crystal tag that read OUR NEW BEGINNING, meant to hold the keys to my penthouse.

"What is the meaning of this?" Mason stepped forward, puffing out his chest with the hollow bravado of a man who thought he had just married into a billionaire dynasty. "I am Mason Vance, the new managing partner of Vance-Hart Holdings. You can't just barge in here—"

Arthur didn't even look at Mason. He simply raised his hand, and one of his junior partners instantly snapped open a sleek leather tablet, projecting a digital document onto the massive dual screens flanking the stage—screens that had, moments before, been playing a loop of Chloe and Mason’s engagement photos.
