Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Betrayal—Victoria Sells Out Her Own Mother!

Inside the cold, fluorescent-lit interrogation room of the precinct, Victoria sat shivering. The reality of prison was staring her in the face. Because she had signed several of the recent foundation transfer documents as a "co-conspirator," she was facing up to fifteen years of federal prison alongside her mother.
The door opened, and Maya walked in, carrying a single folder. She sat down across from her sister, looking calm and untouchable.
"Maya, please, you have to get me out of here!" Victoria begged, her hands shaking as she reached across the table. "I didn't know Mom forged those papers twenty years ago! I was just a kid too! She told me the money was ours! She lied to me too!"
"Did she?" Maya asked, opening the folder. "Because I have the records of the offshore accounts you opened last year in the Cayman Islands. You knew exactly where the foundation money was going, Victoria. You helped her hide it."
Victoria sobbed, covering her face. "She made me do it! She said if we didn't hide the money, you would find a way to kick us out! She's the one who planned everything! Please, Maya... I'll do anything. Don't let them send me to prison."
"Anything?" Maya leaned forward, her eyes piercing through her sister’s desperate facade. "Prove it."
"How?"
"Testify against Helen," Maya said coldly. "Give the prosecution the full details of her offshore operations, the forged signatures, and the exact locations of the remaining hidden assets. If you cooperate fully, I will instruct our legal team to offer you a plea deal. You’ll get probation and community service. No prison time."
Victoria didn't even hesitate for a second.
The sister who had spent her entire life boasting about their "unbreakable bond" against the "family embarrassment" did not waste a single breath to save her mother.
"I’ll do it," Victoria gasped, wiping her tears away. "I’ll tell them everything. I have her old ledgers hidden in a safe deposit box. I’ll give you the keys. Just promise me I won't go to jail!"

"A wise choice, Victoria," Maya said, standing up and closing the folder. "Though, I must say... I almost feel sorry for Helen. She spent twenty-five years building a monster, only to have that monster devour her the moment the lights went out."
As Maya walked out of the room, she felt a profound sense of closure. The toxic loyalty her mother and sister had weaponized against her for decades had vanished at the first sign of real trouble.
