CHAPTER 2 — The Woman Who Stole a Mother's Life

The little boy's name was Noah.

Victoria insisted on meeting the woman who had raised him.

The children led her to a tiny farmhouse hidden among sunflower fields.

Standing on the porch was a woman in her late fifties.

Simple clothes.

Gentle eyes.

Her name was Eleanor.

The moment she saw Victoria...

She turned pale.

"I always wondered if this day would come."

Victoria's voice shook.

"Tell me the truth."

Eleanor invited her inside.

Old photographs covered the walls.

One picture stopped Victoria cold.

Baby Noah.

Only a few months old.

Alive.

Healthy.

Smiling.

Victoria collapsed into a chair.

"How?"

Eleanor opened an old wooden box.

Inside were hospital records...

Birth certificates...

A nurse's identification badge...

And newspaper clippings from seven years earlier.

"I never wanted to keep this secret," Eleanor whispered.

"The woman responsible is already dead."

Victoria listened without breathing.

Seven years earlier...

During childbirth...

Victoria had suffered severe complications.

She lost consciousness.

A corrupt nurse working with an illegal adoption ring saw an opportunity.

Victoria was told her baby had died.

Instead...

The infant was secretly sold to a wealthy couple who desperately wanted a child.

But fate intervened.

The couple died in a highway accident only six months later.

Social services searched for surviving relatives.

There were none.

Eleanor...

The deceased father's older sister...

Adopted baby Noah legally.

She never knew the child had been stolen.

Years later...

While sorting through the couple's belongings...

She found hidden hospital documents exposing the horrifying truth.

She wanted to find Victoria.

But the hospital had been shut down.

The nurse had disappeared.

The records had vanished.

Only one clue remained.

The old soccer ball.

Inside the faded stitching...

Eleanor discovered Victoria's handwritten message.

She promised Noah,

"If someone ever recognizes this ball...

they'll know who truly loves you."

Victoria burst into tears.

She hugged Noah tighter than she had ever held anyone.

For the first time in seven years...

A mother's empty arms were finally full again.

But the hardest battle...

May you like

Had only just begun.

Because another family still believed Noah belonged to them.
