Chapter 5 - The Vanishing HeirVIRAL HEADLINE: Her Partner Betrayed Her And Fled The Country, But A Shocking Boardroom Takeover Stopped Him In His Tracks!

“The higher you fly on stolen wings, the harder you hit the ground when the sky catches fire.”

At thirty thousand feet above the Atlantic Ocean, Julian Vance poured himself a glass of vintage champagne in the opulent leather cabin of the private Gulfstream jet. He looked out the window at the endless expanse of clouds, a triumphant smile on his face.

“To survival,” he raised his glass to the empty cabin.

Tabitha was in jail, the Harrington family was dragged through a public scandal, and he was flying away with fifty million dollars drained from various hidden accounts over the last three years. It was a clean break.

Suddenly, the plane engine let out a low, vibrating whine. The cabin lights flickered twice, shifting from warm ambient orange to a stark, flashing red.

The pilot’s voice came over the intercom, sounding strained and urgent. “Mr. Vance, we have an emergency navigation override. Systems are not responding to manual flight controls.”

Julian frowned, setting his champagne glass down on the table. “What do you mean override? We are in international airspace!”

“Sir, our autopilot system has been remotely recalibrated by ground control,” the pilot shouted back over the rising hum of the engines. “We aren't flying to Paraguay anymore. The system is redirecting us to a military airfield in Bermuda!”

“Land the plane manually! Override the system!” Julian yelled, rushing toward the cockpit door.

“I can’t!” the pilot panicked. “The entire fly-by-wire system has been locked out from an external server!”

Inside the cockpit monitor, the flight destination screen cleared. The coordinates for South America vanished, replaced by a single, bold line of text flashing in bright red:

PROPERTY OF HARRINGTON AEROSPACE SERVICES. EN ROUTE TO FEDERAL JURISDICTION.

Julian hit the cockpit door with his fist, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird.

Back in New York, Robin Harrington sat in his mother’s office, watching a live radar screen displaying the Gulfstream’s modified flight path.

“How did you do that, Mom?” Robin asked, looking at Eleanor with a newfound mix of awe and terror. “How did you control a private jet in mid-air?”

“Harrington Enterprises acquired the majority stake in Avionics Global two years ago, Robin,” Eleanor said, taking a calm sip of her tea. “Julian rented that specific private jet from a charter company that uses our navigation software. I didn’t just track him—I owned the plane he bought his ticket on.”

Robin stared at his mother, realizing for the first time the sheer depth of the empire his family controlled. Eleanor wasn't just a wealthy socialite protecting her son; she was a chess master who had seen twenty moves ahead while everyone else was playing checkers.

“What happens to Tabitha now?” Robin asked softly, his voice still carrying a faint echo of grief for the woman he thought he had loved.

“Tabitha is facing twenty years in federal prison,” Eleanor replied, her tone turning gentle as she walked over to her son, placing a hand on his shoulder. “And as for you, my dear boy... it’s time you learned how to run this company properly, so no one ever tricks you again.”
