Chapter 9 - The Shocking Unraveling“The documents were revealed on the giant screens, exposing a secret far worse than money…”Before Ethan could respond, Julian stepped up onto the main stage, clearing his throat loudly into the microphone. The chatter in the ballroom died down instantly.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the board, honored guests," Julian announced, a triumphant grin plastered on his face. "Tonight is a momentous occasion. My dear brother, Ethan Carter, has an important announcement regarding the future leadership of Carter Global Oil."

Julian motioned toward the stage. "Ethan? Step on up."

Ethan looked at me, squeezed my hand tightly, and stepped onto the stage. The crowd applauded politely.

Ethan approached the podium, pulling the microphone toward him. He looked out at the sea of powerful executives, corrupt board members, and flashing news cameras.

"Thank you, Julian," Ethan said, his voice echoing powerfully through the speakers. "Tonight, I was supposed to stand here and announce my resignation due to recent financial irregularities."

Gasps rippled through the audience. Julian’s grin faltered slightly.

"However," Ethan continued, pulling the silver flash drive from his pocket and plugging it into the podium’s media console, "I think you all deserve to see the real financial records first."

The massive LED screens behind the stage flickered to life.

Instead of showing Ethan’s alleged offshore transfers, the screens displayed a complete digital audit trail—showing Julian’s private IP address routing $40 million into an offshore account in the Cayman Islands using stolen security passcodes.

The ballroom erupted into chaos. Reporters began shouting questions, camera flashes blinded the stage, and board members stood up in outrage.

"This is a lie! It’s a fake!" Julian screamed, rushing toward the podium. "He’s framing me!"

"There’s more," Ethan said coldly, pressing another key on the podium.

A audio file began to play through the high-definition speakers. It was a recorded phone conversation from three years ago.

Julian’s Voice (Recorded): "Just cut the brake lines on the SUV. Make sure Ethan is in the car with her."

Unknown Voice: "And if the kids are in the car?"

Julian’s Voice: "I don't care! Just make it look like an accident! I want that inheritance!"

The entire room went dead, chillingly silent.

Ethan stood frozen on stage, his blood running cold as he listened to his late wife’s murder being confessed by his own brother. Sarah hadn't died of random heart failure or a tragic accident—she had died in a tampered car crash that was meant to kill Ethan as well.

Julian turned pale as death, taking three steps back toward the stage exit. "No... no, that's not possible... Sarah deleted that recording..."

"She backed it up on her tablet," I called out from the front row, stepping into the spotlight. "She kept it to protect her family from you."

Two heavy oak doors at the back of the ballroom slammed open. Federal agents and Dallas police officers swarmed into the room, guns drawn.

"Julian Carter! Hands where we can see them!" the FBI lead agent yelled.

Julian tried to run, but Ethan lunged across the stage, tackling his brother to the ground with devastating force. Within seconds, hand cuffs clanked shut around Julian’s wrists.

As the police dragged a screaming Julian out of the ballroom, Ethan stood up, breathing heavily. His eyes met mine across the silent, stunned room.
