Chapter 4 - THE ALLIANCE OF SHADOWS

Viral Hook: “The toxic fiancée has a secret partner in crime. When the billionaire’s stepbrother walks through the door, the ultimate trap is sprung.”
Before Nolan could answer, the heavy double doors of the study swung open.
A tall, broad-shouldered man with slicked-back dark hair and a smug, mocking smile walked in. He was wearing a bespoke Italian suit, a glass of scotch already in his hand.
Richard Ashford. Nolan’s estranged stepbrother.
“I believe the lady is right, little brother,” Richard said, taking a sip of his drink and looking around the study with an air of ownership. “You always were too sentimental. First with mother’s old piano, and now with a maid’s kid. It’s pathetic, really.”
Nolan’s jaw clenched. “Richard. What are you doing here? This is private property.”
“Actually, as of ten minutes ago, it’s disputed property,” Richard smiled, pulling a document from his inner pocket and tossing it onto the mahogany desk. “I’ve already filed an emergency injunction with the board. The moment rumors of your 'paternity scandal' leaked—and trust me, Celeste’s PR team made sure it leaked to the press five minutes ago—the board went into a panic. The stock is dropping. And under father’s clause, since you are actively refusing to fulfill your marital obligation with a Council family, I have claimed temporary voting control of your shares.”
Nolan stared at his stepbrother, then at Celeste. The pieces of the puzzle suddenly fell into place.
“You two planned this,” Nolan realized, his voice dangerously quiet. “Celeste, you didn't just find out about Mae’s pregnancy four years ago. You and Richard conspired to drive her away so you could force me into a marriage that would hand over control of my company to the both of you.”
“Bingo,” Richard grinned. “But hey, don't look at us like we’re the bad guys. We’re just business-minded. You got to play the brooding billionaire for a few years, but now it’s time for the real players to take the stage. You have a choice, Nolan. Marry Celeste next week, keep twenty percent of your wealth, and we’ll buy off the maid with a few million dollars to keep her quiet forever. Or... refuse, marry your little cleaning lady, and watch your daughter grow up in a two-bedroom apartment while I sleep in this mansion.”
Celeste walked over to Richard, her demeanor completely transformed from panic to sheer arrogance. She looked at Nolan with triumph. “The media is waiting at the gates, Nolan. They want a statement about the 'miracle child' and the future of the Ashford empire. What’s it going to be?”
For a long, agonizing minute, Nolan stood silent. The weight of his father’s empire, his life’s work, and the future of his daughter hung in the balance.
Slowly, Nolan walked over to the desk. He picked up the contract Richard had thrown down. He looked at it, then looked at his stepbrother.
Then, with a slow, deliberate motion, Nolan ripped the contract in half.
Richard’s smile faded. “What are you doing?”
“I don’t care about the eighty billion, Richard,” Nolan said, his voice ringing with a terrifying power. “And I don’t care about the board. You think you’ve won? You don’t even know what game we’re playing.”
Nolan turned to Dr. Sterling. “Doctor, please prepare Mae and Nora. We are leaving. And Arthur,” he called out to the butler. “Call the security team. Throw these two off my property. If they refuse, have them arrested for trespassing. I’ll handle the press myself.”

“Nolan, you’re insane!” Celeste yelled, her voice screeching in disbelief. “You’ll be ruined! You’ll have nothing!”
“I’ll have my daughter,” Nolan said, looking her dead in the eye. “And that means I have everything I need to destroy you.”
