CHAPTER 1 — The Fall That Changed Everything

The scream echoed through the mansion before anyone understood what had happened.

Crystal chandeliers trembled.

A porcelain vase shattered against the marble floor.

And at the bottom of the grand staircase lay seventy-four-year-old Evelyn Parker, her silver hair spread across the cold white stone, blood slowly staining the polished marble beneath her head.

She didn't move.

For a heartbeat, the entire mansion froze.

Then came footsteps.

Fast.

Heavy.

"Billionaire Alexander Reed burst through the front doors.

"Mom!"

His voice cracked with a panic no boardroom had ever heard.

He dropped beside her, shaking uncontrollably as he cradled her trembling body.

"Call an ambulance!"

Servants scattered in every direction.

At the top of the staircase stood Victoria Lane.

Perfect makeup.

Perfect silk dress.

Perfect expression.

Or at least she tried.

"I... I tried to stop her," Victoria whispered, forcing tears into her eyes. "She slipped..."

Alexander looked up.

His eyes searched hers.

Years ago, he could read every emotion on her face.

Today...

He couldn't read anything.

Before he could speak, the mansion's chief of security rushed inside, breathing hard while clutching a tablet.

"Sir..."

The man's face had turned pale.

"You need to see this immediately."

Alexander took the tablet.

Security footage filled the screen.

Camera 7.

Grand staircase.

There was no sound.

Only video.

Everyone watched as Evelyn slowly climbed the stairs using the handrail.

Victoria appeared.

The two women spoke calmly.

Then...

Victoria looked over both shoulders.

She checked whether anyone was watching.

And with both hands...

She shoved Evelyn with all her strength.

The old woman flew backward.

The staircase became a blur.

Crash.

Silence filled the mansion.

Alexander's hands began shaking.

Victoria's smile disappeared.

"No..." she whispered.

"That's impossible..."

Then something even stranger happened.

The video kept playing.

Victoria suddenly looked directly into the security camera...

...and smiled.

Not nervous.

Not guilty.

Confident.

Almost as if...

She expected someone else to erase the evidence.

Alexander slowly raised his head.

For the first time in years...

He looked at the woman he loved like a complete stranger.

"I trusted you..."

Victoria's voice trembled.

"Alexander, someone edited that footage!"

Nobody answered.

Then the security chief swallowed hard.

"Sir..."

"There's another recording."

Everyone turned.

"It wasn't from our cameras."

Alexander frowned.

"What do you mean?"

The guard looked toward Evelyn's unconscious body.

"It came from... her necklace."

The room fell silent.

Because hidden inside Evelyn's simple silver cross...

Was a military-grade recording device.

And it had captured...

Everything.

Including words the mansion cameras could never hear.

Alexander pressed PLAY.

Victoria's voice filled the mansion.

"You old woman..."

"I'll make sure your son buries you before he ever believes you."

Every servant froze.

Every guard looked away.

Alexander stopped breathing.

But Victoria...

Wasn't afraid.

She laughed.

A slow...

Cold...

Terrifying laugh.

"Go ahead," she whispered.

"Play the rest."

Alexander stared at her.

"What do you mean?"

Victoria smiled.

"Because if you hear the rest..."

"...your mother dies for nothing."

The room exploded into silence.

May you like

No one knew...

The nightmare had only just begun.
