Chapter 9 - The Final StandBefore Shelby’s finger could pull the trigger, Dominic spun around with unnatural speed. He didn't fire his weapon. Instead, he kicked a heavy bronze sculpture across the marble floor, slamming it violently into Shelby’s knees.

She screamed, dropping her weapon as she collapsed to the floor.

Dominic stood over her, his breathing heavy, his dark jacket stained with rain and dust. He didn't yell. He didn't threaten. He simply pressed his encrypted comms link.

"Ethan. Clear the grounds. Hand Shelby and her federal co-conspirators over to the SEC and the state attorney general. Let them rot."

Minutes later, the heavy steel door of the panic room swung open.

Dominic stood in the doorway, bleeding slightly from a graze on his shoulder, his hair damp from the storm. He looked exhausted, yet unbreakable.

Natalie rushed forward, forgetting every rule, every wall, and every defense she had ever built. She threw her arms around his neck, burying her face in his chest.

Dominic froze for a single second before wrapping his strong arms around her with bone-crushing intensity, burying his face in her hair.

"I told you," Dominic whispered, his voice thick with emotion against her ear. "Nothing was going to keep me from coming back to you."
