CHAPTER 4: The Billionaire's Last Confession

Chaos erupted inside the ballroom.
Guests scrambled for the exits while federal agents rushed to arrest Victoria. But before they could reach her, the lights suddenly went out.
A deafening explosion shattered the silence.
Smoke filled the grand hall.
When the emergency lights flickered back on, Victoria was gone.
So was Lily.
Richard's heart nearly stopped.
"LILY!"
The old billionaire ignored the agents and ran into the smoke, coughing violently. Broken glass crunched beneath his shoes as he searched every corner of the burning ballroom.
Then he heard a faint voice.
"Grandpa..."
Richard found Lily trapped beneath a collapsed lighting rig. Without thinking, the eighty-year-old man threw himself under the steel beam, lifting it just enough for the rescue team to pull her free.
The strain was too much.
Richard collapsed to his knees, clutching his chest.
As paramedics rushed toward him, he grabbed FBI Director Daniel Brooks by the arm.
"There isn't much time..."
With trembling hands, Richard removed an antique gold key hanging from a chain around his neck.
"I've carried this secret for twelve years."
He placed the key in Lily's hand.
"It opens Vault Seven beneath Ashford Manor."
Daniel frowned.
"What's inside?"
Richard looked directly at Lily, tears filling his eyes.
"Everything."
"The original investigation."
"Emily's recordings."
"The names of every politician, judge, and businessman Victoria bribed..."
"And the document proving who truly owns Ashford Global."
The ballroom fell silent.
Victoria hadn't tried to kill Lily because she wanted revenge.
She wanted the contents of Vault Seven.
Suddenly, every phone inside the ballroom vibrated at the exact same moment.
A livestream appeared.
Victoria stood inside a private helicopter with a gun pointed at Lily's childhood nanny.
She smiled into the camera.
"You have exactly twenty-four hours."
"Bring me the key..."
"...or everyone the little girl loves dies."
The helicopter disappeared into the night.
Richard squeezed Lily's hand one final time.
"There is one more truth..."
"I am not your biological grandfather."
Lily's eyes widened.
"What...?"
Richard whispered four chilling words before losing consciousness.
"Find... your real father."
The heart monitor emitted one long, continuous tone.

The billionaire was gone.
And the greatest secret of all had just begun.
