When she reached me, she stepped up onto the dais and placed her hand in mine. Her skin was warm, real, and steady.
"You look nice for a beggar," she whispered with a teasing smile in her eyes.
"You look breathtaking for a savior," I replied, lifting her hand to my lips and pressing a gentle kiss against her knuckles—right over the thin white scar we both shared.
