Chapter 4 - The Escape and the Trap

🔴 TRENDING: "He Thought He Had the Upper Hand, But the Traitors Were One Step Ahead..."The side hallway was silent, isolated from the bustling lobby and the crowded auditorium.
"The tablet. Hand it over," Armando demanded the moment the heavy doors closed behind them.
Diego slowly pulled the tablet from his waistband and held it out. Karla snatched it eagerly, her fingers flying across the screen.
"It's locked," she muttered frantically. "Diego, what’s the passcode?"
"I don't know," Diego lied.
Armando struck him.
The blow was fast and brutal. A heavy backhand caught Diego across the jaw, sending him stumbling back against the concrete wall. The taste of copper filled his mouth.
"Do not play games with me, Diego!" Armando snarled, stepping closer, his prestigious facade completely gone. "I built this family! I built your life! You are nothing without me! Now give her the passcode, or I swear to God, I will have your daughter thrown from the roof of this building and make it look like a tragic suicide!"
Diego wiped the blood from his lip. He looked at his father, then at Karla, who was watching with cold indifference. She didn't care about him. She only cared about her wealth, her status, and her twisted partnership with a monster.
"The passcode is her birthday," Diego spat out. "08-12-18."
Karla typed it in. The screen unlocked. She quickly found the video gallery. Her eyes scanned the files, and her face drained of color.
"Armando..." she whispered, her voice trembling with genuine terror. "It's all here. Months of footage. The conversations... everything. And... oh my God."
"What?" Armando snapped.
"He shared them," Karla gasped, looking at the cloud upload history. "He sent them to a secure link. Diego... who did you send this to?"
Diego smiled through the blood on his teeth. "To someone you can't buy, Father. The Federal Police. They’re on their way right now."
Armando’s eyes flared with a psychotic rage. He pulled the pistol from his holster and pointed it directly at Diego’s chest.
"You foolish, ungrateful boy," Armando hissed. "You think the feds can touch me? By the time they get here, I will be gone. And you... you will be a tragic casualty of a robbery gone wrong."
"And Renata?" Diego asked, his heart pounding, trying to buy time. "You’d kill your own granddaughter?"
"She is a liability," Armando said coldly. "Just like her mother was before she learned to obey. Karla, go backstage. Get the girl. We’re leaving. Now."
Karla hesitated for a fraction of a second, looking at Diego. But greed and fear won. "Yes, Armando."
She turned to run toward the backstage area.
"NO!" Diego roared.
He lunged forward, ignoring the gun pointed at his chest. He tackled Karla to the ground, sending the tablet flying across the polished floor. Armando cursed, stepping forward to aim at Diego's head.
